World No.1 Jannik Sinner has given an update on his return to tennis ahead of the Canadian Masters. The Italian has not played since losing in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon to Daniil Medvedev.
Sinner is gearing up for a return at the National Bank Open in Canada, where he is the defending champion. It will be his first title defense of a Masters 1000 title in his career.

Many notable players are expected to withdraw from the Canadian Masters due to their busy schedules at the Paris Olympics. Novak Djokovic has already confirmed he will not participate in this year’s event as he bids to win his first Olympic gold medal for Serbia.
Sinner was initially scheduled to represent Italy at the Paris Olympics. However, he withdrew at the last minute due to illness.
Jannik Sinner’s 2024 season so far
Jannik Sinner in 2024 is enjoying the first breakthrough season of his career. This year couldn’t have started any better for him as he won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
Sinner beat defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals before coming from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev in the final. Shortly after his victory Down Under, Sinner won the Rotterdam Open to extend his unbeaten run.
The Italian’s unbeaten run came to an end at Indian Wells, where he was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. However, Sinner regrouped to win his second Masters 1000 title in Miami. Sinner’s glorious season took a hit during the clay court season when he injured his hip. He lost in the Monte Carlo semifinals against Stefanos Tsitsipas before withdrawing from his quarterfinal match in Madrid.
He regrouped to play Roland Garros, where he lost in five close sets to Alcaraz. However, the Italian became the first player from his country to be ranked World No. 1 at the end of his French Open fortnight.
Sinner won his fourth title of the year at Halle. However, he lost in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before withdrawing from the Summer Olympics due to a virus.
