Jared “The Killa Gorilla” Cannonier is probably a fight away from challenging Israel Adesanya for the middleweight championship. He faces a stern test in the form of Robert Whittaker at UFC 254, co-main event this weekend. He is also coming off dominating victories over all of his last three opponents, viz. David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson. The tough American will be looking forward to replicating the same, come Saturday.

Jared who was initially in the heavyweight division, has dropped two weight classes and is now in the shape of his life at middleweight. In a recent interview Jared revealed a lot about his fight persona and also spoke about his upcoming bout against Whittaker.

Speaking to BT Sport’s Adam Catteral, Jared Cannonier’s interview showed the philosophical side of the American. Jared also spoke about his fight night approach. Speaking of which he said, “On fight night, the person is not there at that point. There is only a shell at that point. That’s why I never look my opponents in the eye, because I don’t want to fight his soul, I want his soul to remain intact.”

When asked about his fight with Whittaker, Jared said,” I’m gonna put it on him, like nobody’s ever done. I am not going to rush like a raging bull and go at him like that. I am smart. I am calculated and I’m gonna be cold blooded that night. I am a totally different fighter than I was a year ago. I am way better than I was then. And, so whatever he’s expecting (to Whittaker)- just throw that in trash. My left hook is nasty.”

Well, the co-main event is going to be a cracker of a contest. BRING IT ON!
