Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are some of the best quarterbacks and tight-end duos ever to play in the NFL. After winning three Super Bowl titles in five years, they are on the path to a historic three-peat. Jared Wiley, whom the Chiefs drafted in the fourth round this year as a tight end, claimed it was a blessing to learn from the two legends.
Wiley got the chance to train with both Mahomes and Kelce during rookie camp after the draft—more so with Mahomes than Kelce. Regardless, their presence and input left a long-lasting impression on him.
The Chiefs began their training camp on Wednesday, allowing the veterans to practice with the rookies. On Thursday, Wiley spoke with the media, sharing his experience of the first few sessions with Patrick Mahomes.
I mean, y'all know like Pat's [Patrick Mahomes] going to do what he does—[obviously], the best quarterback I've ever been around. Getting to take reps with him before everybody else gets here. You know, super blessed to, you know, be in a position to do that.Jared Wiley said
He also showered massive praise on Travis Kelce, whom he perceives as a mentor figure. According to him, the 34-year-old’s knowledge of the game would help in his development.
His knowledge of the game, whether it's of our offense, obviously he's been in it for a while or just knowing what the defense is going to do and how he can kind of manipulate his route.Jared Wiley said about Travis Kelce
Wiley could be the apparent heir to Kelce. The 9 time Pro Bowler signed a two-year extension earlier this year, which should give him enough time to teach the rookie a thing or two from his bag of tricks.
Jared Wiley determined to prove himself among tough competition in the Chiefs roster
There’s nothing guaranteed in football, even more so in a team that constantly fights for the Super Bowl. It’s true in the case of every rookie because making the final 53-man roster has been their primary goal ever since the draft.

Wiley understands his position is always under scrutiny given the competition surrounding him. Travis Kelce and Noah Gray are the two primary tight ends for the Chiefs, but several others are eyeing any opportunity for a chance.
Yeah, I mean, just come in and contribute—I know it’s in our room—we got me, Irv [Smith Jr.], Noah [Gray], Gerritt [Prince], [and] obviously, Trav [Travis Kelce]—we have a talented group. So, if I can find a way to come in and contribute as much as I possibly can.Jared Wiley said

The Texas Christian University graduate is ready to contribute however the coaches want from him.
Whether it’s on special teams, anything they want me to do on offense, that’d be my biggest goal is just to, just to prove that I belong in that room.Wiley quipped
