Jarrett Stidham did everything right in the offseason so that Sean Payton would pick him as the Denver Broncos starter. From organizing special training sessions with his teammates to polishing his skills as a pocket passer, Stidham made sure to stay in the good books of the Broncos’ head coach.
All the effort went down the drain when Payton announced last week that he selected the first-round rookie Bo Nix as the starter over him. Stidham revealed the decision came as a surprise to him.
Obviously, I was very disappointed [because] I know I’m a starting quarterback in this league. I have no doubts about that and it just didn’t shake out my way. I know what kind of player I am, what kind of person I am.Jarrett Stidham said per Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette
Stidham played just one series on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, completing 2 of 4 for 28 yards and a layoff to rookie Audric Estime for a 3-yard touchdown run. Zach Wilson played the rest of the game and completed 16 of 25 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, earning brownie points for the backup job.
Jarrett Stidham on Bo Nix being named #Broncos starting QB: “First of all obviously I was very disappointed. I know I’m a starting quarterback in this league. I have no doubts about that & it just didn’t shake out my way. I know what kind of player I am, what kind of person I am"

Wilson is unlikely to be the primary backup to Nix, but he will remain part of the team as Payton announced they will stick with three quarterbacks.
Jarrett Stidham will help Bo Nix grow as a quarterback in the NFL
Stidham played two games at the tail end of the 2023 season after the Broncos benched Russell Wilson. He completed 60.6% of his passes for 496 yards with two touchdowns and one interception as they finished with an 8-9 season.
Even though the 28-year-old will be backing up Nix in the new season, he has no hard feelings about it and will gladly help the Oregon graduate get accustomed to the NFL.
I’m going to do whatever I can to help Bo [Nix] get prepared. He’s never had a real season like this in the NFL. I’m going to help him [in] whatever way I can, and then also be ready to go if I need to be. So, [I’m] just ready for the season to get here.Jarrett Stidham said

Stidham had the chance to learn from the best, Tom Brady at the New England Patriots. He wants to impart the same knowledge with Nix so that the Broncos can finally play post-season football for the first time since they won the Super Bowl in 2015. They will kick off their 2024 campaign against the Seattle Seahawks.
