Pakistan’s Head Coach, Jason Gillespie, has criticized Australian broadcasters for focusing on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 rather than the ongoing ODI series between Australia and Pakistan. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is consistently one of the most-watched series each year, especially when played in Australia.

However, Pakistan was visiting Australia for a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite this, the ODI series did not receive the expected level of promotion or excitement.

Gillespie expressed surprise at the lack of advertising for the Australia-Pakistan ODI series, feeling that broadcasters were prioritizing the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy instead. The Trophy series is set to begin on November 22, with the first match taking place in Perth.

To be honest, I pretty much saw no promotion of our one-day series by Cricket Australia, which was a bit of a surprise. It’s pretty obvious that they’re prioritizing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India because I saw no promotion of this series.

Jason Gillespie said to Sydney Morning Herald

Pakistan won the ODI series in Australia by a margin of 2-1, marking their first series victory Down Under since 2002. They were defeated in the first ODI at the MCG, but Pakistan made a strong comeback to win the second and third ODIs in Adelaide and Perth, respectively.

Jason Gillespie claims Cricket Australia’s ‘priorities’ have been India

Gillespie, originally the red-ball Head Coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team, stepped in as the interim Head Coach of the white-ball team after Gary Kirsten resigned. In the same press-conference, he praised Fox Cricket for their strong promotion efforts but expressed frustration with Cricket Australia’s apparent prioritization of the upcoming series against India over Pakistan’s ODI series.

The timing of it … it’s really difficult for administrators to schedule all the cricket in. But it has felt from Pakistan’s perspective that based on selections and promotion of the series that their priorities have been India. Everyone can see that, it’s pretty obvious.

Gillespie also took a subtle jab at the Australian batting lineup, stating that the Men in Green’s fast-bowling unit thoroughly dismantled Australia’s batting order.

He praised Pakistan’s bowling attack for adapting to the conditions like a champion team and expressed satisfaction with defeating Australia on their home ground. The Men in Green opted not to play any specialist spinner throughout the series, relying solely on their fast-bowling unit, which wreaked havoc on the home side.

Meanwhile, Australia is determined to win the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy at any cost, having lost four series to India since 2014-15. The Aussies have been defeated in the last two home Test series against India and are eager to deliver a dominant performance this time to secure their place in the World Test Championship final.
