It has been an eventful couple of days for Jason Kelce. The 36-year-old found himself at the center of attention when he was at the Penn State campus.

An unknown individual dressed in a hoodie shouted homophobic slurs at his brother and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Initially, the older Kelce tried his best to ignore but eventually reacted by smashing the guy’s phone.

Everyone praised Kelce for sticking up for his brother and limiting himself to property damage rather than inflicting any kind of physical harm. However, the former Eagles center isn’t proud of the moment. It’s natural for a brother to defend his kin, but Jason did not appreciate the brazen way he reacted.

I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing. I don’t think it leads to discourse, and [don’t think] it’s the right way to go about things.

Jason Kelce said while from ESPN’s announcement booth on Monday before the Chiefs played the Buccaneers at Arrowhead

Kelce was among the most dominating centers during his time in the NFL. Yet, no matter how much aggression he showed on the field, off it, he’s a very different person. The Ohio native has a beautiful former field hockey player, Kylie Kelce, as his wife with three cute young daughters. He is much more gentle.

Kelce always makes it a point to be a model father and brother, but his actions against the heckler were a side of him that he did not want people to see.

I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have. So, I think the bottom line is, that I try to live my life by the golden rule. It’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect.

Kelce promised to keep true to his code and practice it throughout his life. The heckler apparently called Travis ‘Gay’ for dating pop icon Taylor Swift. Whether he said anything further is unclear, but it was enough for Jason to take matters into his own hands.

This incident took place a few days after People magazine announced the duo of Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce as the ‘Sexiest Podcast Duo’ and their podcast ‘New Heights’ one of the most watched/listened to in the world.
