Saquon Barkley is loving life once more. Switching back to familiar settings in Philadelphia after a couple of turbulent years with the New York Giants appears to have made the 27-year-old star running back, itching to get back on the field. But perhaps he won’t be the only one making a comeback.
Barkley was a special guest during the recent episode of the ‘New Heights‘ podcast hosted by the dynamic duo of Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce. They asked the former Penn State speedster how he was feeling about being back in the state of Pennsylvania.
I am like a kid in a candy store. I gotta fresh start [and] I can't wait to meet everybody and just go out there and play ball.Barkley said
Following a lengthy contract dispute with the Giants, Saquon Barkley left to join division rivals the Philadelphia Eagles. He agreed to a 3-year, $37.75 million deal, which Giants co-owner John Mara hated.
Hearing how excited Barkley is to play for the Eagles, Jason said it would be really fun to watch him play.
You don't gotta watch it, you know?Saquon replied
As much as the Eagles fans are happy to have a great RB behind Jalen Hurts for the next three years, they would be ecstatic to hear the return of Jason Kelce. The veteran center played more than a decade for the Eagles, winning seven Pro Bowls and Super Bowl LVII. He retired earlier this year after crashing out in the wild-card round.
Were the Philadelphia Eagles the only team trying to sign Saquon Barkley?
In the 2024 free agency, several high-profile running backs made the switch to other teams. Derrick Henry, Zack Moss, and Joe Mixon will all be donning different colors in the new season. Yet, Saquon Barkley’s move to the Eagles was arguably the biggest news of them all.
However, Barkley revealed that Howie Rosman wasn’t the only one who approached him. He was close to settling in Texas—not Dallas but Houston.
Probably the first team that had my first interest was Houston. I got to communicate with CJ [Stroud] and a couple of his boys.Barkley said
He further added that he did not imagine making his way back to Pennsylvania. Most of his family members, including his parents, live in the state.
We're already close. We get to get closer and get a chance to compete.Barkley said
His 5-year-old daughter, Jada, is definitely happy to be able to live near her grandparents. It would be fun to see how Barkley fares in the Eagles set-up.
