Jason Kelce feels Jalen Hurts doesn’t get enough credit for the job he does: “Saquon would not have the season he had without Hurts”

Jason Kelce believes Jalen Hurts deserves more credit for leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl, not just Saquon Barkley.

Jalen Hurts deserves more respect, according to Jason Kelce. The Philadelphia Eagles won a loaded NFC, containing exceptional teams like the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, but instead of giving credit to the Eagles quarterback, fans will quickly point out the extraordinary season Saquon Barkley had.

Hurts took a backseat as Barkley dominated every time he wore the Eagles jersey. The Pro Bowl rusher led the league in both scrimmage yards and touchdowns with 2,447 yards and 20 touchdowns (regular season + post-season). Barkley always possessed the potential to be special, but Kelce argued his numbers reached astronomical proportions because of Jalen Hurts.

I think Jalen never gets enough credit for a lot of things he does for this offense. Saquon Barkley would not have the season he had without having Jalen Hurts as the QB.

The Eagles set up a Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs after winning the NFC Championship game. Barkley had 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Hurts had equally great numbers, completing 20 of his 28 passes for 246 yards and one passing touchdown along with 10 rushes on the ground for 3 rushing touchdowns.

The reality is his [Hurts] threat as a runner, his threat as an RPO person. All of that stuff opens a ton of things… He has cemented himself as a competitor, as a leader.

Jalen Hurts can create history by defeating Patrick Mahomes

Hurts tried and failed the last time he was in the Super Bowl back in 2023 (2022 season). The Eagles went into the game as the underdogs as the Chiefs won the Lombardi Trophy just three seasons earlier and reached it once again the following season, but lost to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite making it 35-35 by scoring a touchdown five minutes from the final whistle, the Chiefs had the last laugh. Kicker Harrison Butker scored a field goal from 28 yards to win the Chiefs and Mahomes’ second Super Bowl in four years.

Hurts has to be at his best against one of the best defenses in the league on February 9 at New Orleans. According to AtoZ Sports, the Chiefs haven’t allowed 100 rushing yards in 18 games and the Eagles have focused on running the ball during the regular season hence Barkley’s numbers.

A pace change in the NFC title game against the Commanders was the right move from Nick Sirianni and Hurts who made plays with his hands besides setting up runs for Barkley.

If Hurts defeats Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, then he will become only the third quarterback besides Brady and Bengals Joe Burrow to win against the 3x Super Bowl MVP, in the postseason. However, Vegas believes the Chiefs are 1.5-point favorites against the Eagles.
