It seems retired NFL legend Jason Kelce is fine with the Taylor Swift effect when it works to his advantage. His podcast, New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, has gained significant popularity since Travis began dating the pop superstar.
However, when this new audience—mainly girls and women—started offering film suggestions after Jason asked during the podcast, he appeared flustered, referring to them as “chick flicks.” On Tuesday’s episode of New Heights, the Kelce brothers shared their plan to start a New Heights Film Club, where they will watch and review different films.
While they both had certain picks in mind, they ultimately came down to fan favorite. But upon getting the suggestions of The Goonies, Swiss Family Robinson, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Parent Trap, Heavyweights, and Bridget Jones’ Diary; the future Hall of Famer got upset and blamed the new audience demographic for the female-centric choices.
The three-time Super Bowl champion tried downplaying the situation by saying that he doesn’t have any problem with the films suggested by the Swifties and he’ll certainly watch them.
After a long discussion and Travis’ resistance towards eliminating all Swifties’ picks, the brothers settled on two picks of each. They surely have got their audience hooked to watch these and wait for the review by the Kelce brothers.
Kelce Brothers credit ‘Taylor Swift effect’ for podcast success and audience growth
Since the six-time Pro Bowler started dating the 14-time Grammy winner, the economy has flourished all around him. This is particularly evident with his New Heights podcast, which both he and his brother Jason attribute to Swift’s influence.
The Kelce brothers have also signed a massive $100+ million contract for three years with Amazon’s Wondery, for exclusive ad sales and distribution rights. After this deal, the New Heights podcast will now be available on all distribution channels of Wondery along with YouTube.
