Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is one of the best upcoming young stars of the league. Last season saw the rise of Edwards to a full-blown superstar. He certainly proved that could carry a team on his back as the number one option on the team. His playing style has also made fans draw comparisons to Michael Jordan. Anthony Edwards made headlines last week after making some bold claims about the ’90s basketball.

Anthony Edwards’ stated that the ’90s basketball didn’t have skilled basketball players except Michael Jordan. Edwards later faced a great backlash from athletes from the ’90s like Isiah Thomas. The latest individual to call out Edwards for his statements was analyst Jason Whitlock. On his X account, he posted a video discussing Edwards’ take.

This is circling back to what I am saying it's like these young people and maybe I used to think this way I don't know, I don't remember the stupid stuff I thought but like everything we are doing is better than what they did before.

Later even Isiah Thomas spoke about his thoughts on the claims of Edwards. Thomas stated that the only 90s players lacked was the three-point shooting. The three-point revolution was brought into the game first in 2015. Before that players mainly depended on strong mid-range shooting or jumper.

Players are certainly more skilled with many offensive moves in their arsenal. In the 90s players were given roles like a Center would only work in the post but these days centers like Karl-Anthony Towns are even seen shooting threes. This shift has expanded the capabilities and versatility of players in the modern game of basketball.

Isiah Thomas calls the Modern NBA player less skilled

Anthony Edwards’s bold claims have certainly affected Isiah Thomas as he expressed his emotion through his ‘X’ account. Thomas is part of the 90’s basketball and was one of the main stars of the league. Zeke was a part of the Bad Boy Pistons.

Thomas discussed the current players in the NBA and expressed his opinion that the current big men lack skills in the post and have a weak defensive mindset. Many fans have compared the current NBA to the NBA in the 90s. It is impossible to determine which era was superior as each era had its distinct characteristics. Zeke attempted to defend his era after making this statement.

The game has certainly evolved from the mid-range shooting to the three-point revolution. However, acknowledging that the game has moved on and gotten more skilled is something most fans and analysts have rightfully done.
