NFL Hall-of-fame tight end Shannon Sharpe found himself in a ‘tight spot’ earlier this week after he mistakenly went live on Instagram while he was in the midst of a private activity with a woman. Sharpe has since taken accountability for the entire incident and set the record straight on the Nightcap Show.

But former ESPN analyst Jason Whitlock is not buying the story Shannon Sharpe is attempting to sell. On the latest episode of Fearless with Jason Whitlock, he shared his perspective on the situation and deemed it to be a publicity ruse that Sharpe’s PR team came up with to make the allegations questioning his sexuality go away.

Whitlock went as far as to compare Sharpe’s Instagram live stream to that of Kim Kardashian’s s** tape.

Shannon Sharpe wants to get past these rumors that he's gay and he loves making money and to be famous, and to not put the s** tape out there is good. This is like Kim Kardashian good. It's going to make him famous...Shannon came on YouTube last night and pretended he was embarrassed and upset but all I heard mostly was a lot of bragging.

The analyst believes the whole incident was set up and not an accident. The reason for this is that Sharpe would not get in trouble because he was not in a vulgar position on tape and thereby, it would not ruin his public image.

He further pointed out that Shannon Sharpe’s Nightcap Show benefitted in terms of viewership as the episode in which the former tight end clarified the entire situation had 200,000 viewers watching it live. At this time, the video has amassed a total of 700,000+ views on YouTube. While that is a lot of views, it must be noted that it does not fall under the top 10 most-watched episodes.

Whitlock went on to react to the clip of Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson bragging about his s**ual prowess. While doing so, he happens to bring up a supplement and rave about its efficacy, the product was RO Sparks, an alternative to Viagra. It just so happens that the company is a sponsor of the show as well.

He's promoting some sort of viagra supplement, he's gaming the system. This is why we call him a master baiter. A master at baiting...He has baited everyone into his s** tape, he's using it for fame...this is in some ways genius but in my mind, it's sad."

His argument has some merit to it, while it is still a theory, there are two possibilities in this case.

The first is what Whitlock has put forth, that the entire thing was staged and the second is that it was an accident as stated by Shannon Sharpe. But he and his PR team were smart enough to turn the negative into a positive by seizing the opportunity to bring a sponsor aboard and increase their viewership simultaneously.

It must be noted that Shannon Sharpe and Jason Whitlock are not on the best terms. Previously, the former spoke out against the latter when he got into an online feud with Stephen A. Smith and traded barbs back and forth. “Look, I don’t mess with him. He knows I don’t mess with him,” Sharpe can be quoted as saying on the Nightcap Show when he addressed Stephen A. and Whitlock’s beef.
