“Dishonest and he no longer wants to do it” – Jason Whitlock reacts to Charles Barkley announcing retirement from 25-year TV career

Jason Whitlock and Charles Barkley

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley announced his retirement from broadcasting after Game 4 between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics. Barkley has been announcing and broadcasting for 25 years in this industry and his retirement surprised everyone. Notably, Jason Whitlock voiced his opinion on Barkley’s retirement, taking a jab at the corporate TV sector.

Whitlock claimed on social media platform X that the change in broadcasting is what possibly led to Barkley’s retirement, calling out the corporate TV as ‘dishonest.’ However, Barkley did not say anything as such, rather he insisted that he would be loyal to TNT and not join any other media firm after the 2024-25 NBA season.

I believe Barkley is stepping away because he's come to grips with what corporate TV is. It's dishonest and he no longer wants to do it. Good for him.

It’s interesting to note that Barkley and Whitlock have been working in the same field for years and have experienced both positive and negative situations together on their respective shows. On the contrary, Barkley will be focused on analyzing the ongoing NBA Finals between the Mavs and the Celtics despite everything going around him regarding his retirement. Watching what assessments Barkley provides regarding the upcoming NBA Finals matchups will be intriguing.

Jason Whitlock once criticized Charles Barkley after his take on Kyrie Irving

After Kyrie Irving‘s monstrous performances for the Mavs in the NBA playoffs this season, many people started praising him, with Charles Barkley being one of them. Barkley claimed that Irving had “grown up” and had improved his game since the last 2022-23 NBA season. However, Jason Whitlock was not a big fan of Barkley’s take on Irving and criticized him on his show.

I think he has grown up. I think he has matured. Stephen A. and other people criticized him, and he rightly deserved it...But he deserved the criticism he got, he deserved the suspension he got.
On the NBA on TNT show, Charles Barkley said

Whitlock did not agree with Barkley.

We need to be talking about you [Barkley]. Why did you criticize him in the first place?
Jason Whitlock retorted

Whitlock further asserted that Barkley and Stephen A. were too at ease attacking Irving and that those incidents are still being brought up now. Whitlock claims that Irving was a very real guy who refused to back down from his principles even in the face of media mockery.
