Team India registered a historic win at the Optus Stadium in Perth in the first of the five-match Test series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, had a contribution in it as he smashed his 81st international century and 30th Test ton. This was his first century since the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final in Mumbai. After the match, India’s stand-in captain for this game, Jasprit Bumrah, heaped praise on Kohli.

Kohli had been facing immense pressure for his lack of runs in the longest format of the game. He had a lean series in the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Kohli’s place in the Test side was being questioned, and Bumrah has supported the former Indian captain after his Perth century.

I didn’t see Virat Kohli out of form. Sometimes you play on challenging wickets it’s difficult to judge if a batsman is in form or not.

Jasprit Bumrah said in the post-match presentation

Kohli was out for just five runs in the first innings of the Test match. Furthermore, he was standing way outside the crease and was not able to ride the bounce off a delivery from Josh Hazlewood. In the second innings, he worked on his technique and remained not-out on 100 runs off 143 deliveries.
