The 2025 Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan was not spared from on-field drama, as Jasprit Bumrah did something unexpected. The 31-year-old, after scalping Haris Rauf’s wicket, did a ‘plane down’ celebration in response to a similar provocative gesture made by Rauf earlier.
Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf found himself in troubled waters following the ‘Super Four’ clash against India. During the second innings of the match, Rauf was mocked by the Indian fans, as Pakistan neared another humiliating defeat at the hands of the Indian side. Fans taunted Rauf by chanting Virat Kohli‘s name, referencing the two memorable sixes the Indian star hit off his bowling during the 2022 T20 WC.
In response, the 31-year-old bowler made an awkwardly provocative gesture, aimed at the Indian armed forces. Rauf imitated the act of bringing down a ‘fighter jet’ or ‘plane’. He went further by using his fingers to make a ‘6-0’ gesture with his hands while fielding, seemingly referring to unverified claims made by the Pakistani government of having shot down six Indian Rafale jets during the recent conflict.
Not just Rauf, but Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan also made a controversial gesture, turning his bat into the shape of a gun to fire shots. The BCCI immediately lodged a formal complaint with the ICC against Rauf and Farhan, with both of them being held guilty of breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. Rauf was fined 30 percent of his match fee, despite the bowler defending his actions.

Rauf’s ‘plane down’ gesture did not go unanswered, as ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah performed a similar celebration after taking the former’s wicket in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup. Bumrah bowled a perfect yorker in the 18th over of the first innings of the final, which crashed straight into the off-stump. The Pakistani pacer was sent back to the pavilion for just six runs, with Bumrah mimicking his ‘fighter-jet’ gesture with a smile on his face.

Interestingly, it was not the first time Jasprit Bumrah deviated from his usual calm character in the match against Pakistan. The 31-year-old fast bowler had also engaged in a heated verbal altercation with Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan earlier in the game, exchanging sharp words on the pitch.
India Wins Asia Cup Trophy for Record Ninth Time with Historic Final Win over Pakistan
The Indian team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai, to win its ninth-ever Asia Cup title. India secured the victory by five wickets in a thrilling chase that went into the very last over of the innings, as the Indian batters held their nerve to take the team over the line.

The Indian T20I team completed a 3-0 clean sweep over Pakistan at the Asia Cup, having won a group-stage encounter, a Super Four encounter, as well as the final. In the final, Pakistan posted a modest first innings total of 146 runs. While openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman provided a decent 84-run start to the innings, wickets fell afterwards, as the Men in Green were bundled out below 150 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav once again starred with the ball, finishing with figures of 4/30 in his four-over spell, while Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel scalped two wickets each. India’s start to the chase was not an easy one, with the team losing its top three in quick succession. However, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube led the comeback, to take India over the line with four balls remaining.
The victory is historically significant, as it marks India’s first-ever win against Pakistan in an Asia Cup final since the competition’s inception in 1984. Furthermore, the win allows India to extend its lead over Pakistan in T20I head-to-head matches, with the Men in Blue now having won 12 out of 16 matches.
