Winning is a habit, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba wants to continue that trend with the Seattle Seahawks by securing a second Super Bowl victory. The Seahawks are strong favorites to make it to the Super Bowl in Los Angeles, but the road there might be tougher than it was last season.

JSN has faced his share of challenges along the way. He patiently waited for his turn to arrive by masterfully playing the role of WR2 behind DK Metcalf. When the opportunity to step up finally arrived following Metcalf’s trade to Pittsburgh, JSN did not disappoint.

The 24-year-old played a key role in helping the Seahawks win the franchise’s second-ever ring. Seattle rewarded Smith-Njigba by making him the highest-paid wide receiver in football. After putting ink to paper, JSN revealed his next objective.

Seattle handed the former 20th overall draft pick the task of leading the offense ahead of the 2025 season. He finished as the league’s top yard earner. On 119 receptions, Smith-Njigba racked up 1739 yards (15.1 yards per catch) and scored 10 touchdowns during the regular season.

JSN delivered his best performance in the postseason in the NFC title win against the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Sam Darnold connected 10 times with JSN on 12 targets for 153 yards and scored one touchdown.

Smith-Njigba signed a four-year, $168 million contract extension after the Seahawks exercised his fifth-year option earlier in the year. Barring a major fallout, it’s safe to assume that the Seahawks won’t cut JSN before the deal ends.

They will address that issue when it arises. However, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated suggests that this deal has set off a chain reaction, which could impact the entire NFL.

On the Rich Eisen Show, Breer pointed out that the Los Angeles Rams are feeling the most pressure due to JSN’s contract, as they also have a receiver waiting to hear the good news. Puka Nacua finished second in the receiver charts with 1715 yards and 10 touchdowns on 129 receptions. Unlike their NFC West rivals, the Rams lack the option to exercise Nacua’s fifth-year option because he was not selected in the first round of the draft.

This puts the Rams in a bit of a bind to cash in on Nacua. Nacua’s stats put him among the league’s top young receivers, but his off-field activities could make the team’s leadership reconsider his role. If the Rams decide to pay Nacua, it would be somewhere in the ballpark of $40 million per year. JSN is only the second wide receiver to cross that mark after the Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase. Nacua has the potential to join those two.

Seattle is also in a similar spot with cornerback Devon Witherspoon. General manager John Schneider exercised Witherspoon’s fifth-year option around the same time as JSN’s. So, it’s only logical for the Seahawks to extend Witherspoon like JSN. The three-time Pro Bowler played just 12 games during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run. Despite playing limited games, Witherspoon racked up 72 combined tackles, 7 pass deflections, one interception, and one forced return. In the playoffs, he made 17 tackles, 4 pass deflections, and one sack.

Witherspoon may earn close to Rams’ new CB Trent McDuffie. According to a report from Seattle Sports, the 25-year-old is projected to make around $31 million per year.
