The New York Giants have narrowed down the list of candidates for their vacant head coaching position. Jaxon Dart seemingly confirmed who the favorites are to lead the Blues of the Big Apple into a new era.
With the Giants not being part of the 2025 playoffs, Dart had plenty of time on his hands to cheer for his alma mater, Ole Miss, in Arizona. The Rebels faced Miami in the Fiesta Bowl with the CFP Final on the line.
Right before halftime break, cameras caught Dart, wearing a Rebels varsity jacket, chatting with a staff member on the sidelines. It’s impossible to decipher the subject matter of their conversation. Not for a pro lip reader. They quickly realized that Dart mentioned two names when the staff member asked him about the Giants’ next head coach.
Lip-readers asserted that Dart conveyed the names of John Harbaugh and Kevin Stefanski. Again, it’s purely speculative. Then again, Harbaugh and Stefanski seem like the most logical choices since both were let go by their previous teams.
Not a lip reader but…

The Giants played the final stretch of games without a proper head coach. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka acted as the interim coach after Brian Daboll was fired following the week 10 fixture. Daboll ended his Giants tenure with a 20-40 record and just one winning season under his belt.
That doesn’t mean he will be without a job for too long. According to Pro Football Talk and Giants content creator Anthony Rivardo, the Las Vegas Raiders are interested in Daboll’s expertise in developing young quarterbacks.

Sure, Geno Smith has one more year left on his contract, but it won’t surprise anyone that the Raiders choose to digest the dead cap over extending his stay in Vegas. Tom Brady, Raiders minority owner, reportedly likes both IU QB and Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza and Oregon’s Donte Moore, so one of them could be headed to Sin City.
Kevin Stefanski’s interview with the Giants went well
Stefanski’s days in Cleveland were numbered for a while. Browns fans were calling for the owners to fire him over his unfair treatment of the rookie quarterbacks. Despite leading the Browns to their first playoff appearance in over a decade and being named the NFL head coach of the year twice, the Browns fired him after the 2025 season concluded.

That being said, insiders knew that Stefanski has a ton of pedigree, and it won’t take too long for him to find a new home team to coach. They weren’t wrong. On Thursday, the Giants interviewed the 43-year-old, and according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, it went really well.
[The meeting] went very well.’ Meeting everybody and talking it through. I think it’s going to be a long process, I really do,.
Schwartz wrote in his latest article
Kevin Stefanski’s interview with the Giants went “very well.” He’s certainly a real candidate. https://t.co/s3bVw9veV7

Other names linked to the Giants’ job
Stefanski and Harbaugh aren’t the only two names in the mix to headline the Big Apple franchise. Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Giants had dinner with former Falcons’ head coach Raheem Morris. Morris also took a tour of the facility on the following day.

Morris is in the building today, where he’s scheduled to meet with more members of the team, including ownership, as the Giants continue their head coaching search.
Giants general manager is also very interested in former player Antonio Pierce, who most recently coached the Raiders. Pierce was part of the Giants’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2008.
