Indian Cricket Team under Rohit Sharma became world champions in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29. However, after the final in Barbados, Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20I format but they have not yet made any such decision in ODIs and Test cricket. Hence, they will continue to play in these two formats.

Meanwhile, secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah has cleared the air behind who will lead Team India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship. Shah expressed his confidence that team India will go on to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship 2025 final under the captaincy of Sharma.

Jay Shah had cleared the air that the senior cricketers will be part of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

After the win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Shah had clearly stated that the senior players will take part in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Pakistan is the host of the tournament. However, there has been no decision made yet on whether Team India will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The Indian government will make their decision on this matter. If they don’t give the nod, BCCI will raise the proposal of hybrid model just like the Asia Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, Shah made a similar prediction that he was sure that India would go on to win the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

Sharma and his boys received a grand reception when they arrived back in India. On July 4, they held an open bus parade in the evening through Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium. Lakhs of fans gathered in the street to get a glimpse of their champion cricketers. The Wankhede Stadium also gave them a similar reception. Sharma and the senior players will be expected to be part of the 3 ODI match series against Sri Lanka.

Sharma was tactically brilliant in the ODI World Cup 2023 as well as the T20 World Cup 2024. He was selfless as a batter and gave India quick starts with his ultra aggressive batting. The fans will be counting on him to provide more success in the upcoming events.
