There were smiles all around the Washington Commanders facility after the doctors cleared Jayden Daniels to start at quarterback on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Daniels’ inclusion in the starting roster increased the Commanders’ chances of winning in the local NFC rivalry.
Seattle traveled to the nation’s capital looking to extend their streak to three after securing back-to-back wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. Washington, on the other hand, had lost three straight games to the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dan Quinn called for a reset ahead of the Week 9 clash. With Daniels leading the charge, the Commanders fans prayed for a positive outcome.
They should have prayed harder. Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold went 16/16 for 282 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first to give his team a 31-7 lead. The Commanders’ only score came with under a minute left before the halftime break, courtesy of a Jayden Daniels 1-yard touchdown on the ground.
Seattle extended its lead after tight end AJ Barner bulldozed his way through the Washington defensive line to score a tush push touchdown in the third quarter.
Tragedy struck just over seven minutes from the final whistle of the final quarter. Seattle linebacker Drake Thomas sacked Daniels (4th sack) by yanking him down to the turf. Daniels stayed down and squirmed in pain.
The replay showed the reason behind Daniels’ discomfort. His left hand bent in the opposite direction while trying to cushion his fall. A frustrated fan lashed out at the Commanders’ front office for keeping Daniels in the game even though they trailed by more than thirty points with barely over seven minutes left.

The cart was called in to transfer Daniels to the nearest medical facility. However, the 24-year-old declined the comforts of the cart and opted to walk on his two feet before disappearing into the tunnel.

The Commanders suffered yet another defeat in the aftermath of Jayden Daniels’ injury
Daniels’ first year in Washington was exceptional. He led the Commanders to the NFC title game after decades of mediocre results. It took the reigning world champions to stop Daniels from playing in the Super Bowl.

Football experts predicted a similar season in Daniels’ second year. However, injuries have been his Achilles heel this time. After missing weeks 3 and 4 due to a knee sprain, he sat out the road trip to Kansas City with a hamstring strain. Veteran Marcus Mariota deputized for the Commanders in Daniels’ absence in Week 9 game.
Mariota came on and helped the backup running back, Chris Rodriguez Jr., score a touchdown.
However, he failed to deliver a win as the game ended 38-14. The Commanders are now 3-6 after nine weeks and third in the NFC East behind the 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles and the 3-4-1 Dallas Cowboys.
At the time of his injury, Daniels had completed 16 passes from 22 attempts for 153 yards and 1 interception, along with 10 carries for 51 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground.
The update on him [Jayden Daniels] is that he does have left elbow injury. I’ll update you know when I know more. But that’s what I know tonight.
Dan Quinn said (H/T: NBC Sports)
Depending on the seriousness of Daniel’s elbow injury, he could be out for a while. If so, then he may miss next week’s fixture against the Detroit Lions.
