Jayden Daniels does not like the New York Mets. The Washington Commanders’ second-year quarterback took a sly jab at the Mets after Juan Soto’s team missed out on playoff qualification.

Daniels sprained his knee during the Commanders’ Week 2 loss against the Green Bay Packers. Washington had no other option but to start Marcus Mariota for the next two games against the Las Vegas Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons.

Ironically, Mariota had played for both teams. He defeated the Raiders but suffered a loss in Atlanta.

Daniels’ rehab was coming along smoothly. Ahead of the week six clash against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Commanders announced that the 24-year-old had recovered enough to start at SoFi Stadium.

In the meantime, Daniels witnessed Juan Soto’s Mets lose to the Miami Marlins in the final game of the series to miss out on the playoffs. Only the Philadelphia Phillies clinched an automatic postseason spot by finishing first in the National East.

The Mets did not make the playoffs; that’s probably the biggest thing that brought a smile to my face this past weekend. They had the opportunity to play the Marlins and clinch a playoff spot, but they lost, and so did the Reds (Cincinnati lost both games against the LA Dodgers). So, I hope you guys have been watching the Dodgers.

Despite winning the second game 5-0, the Mets did not score a single run in the third. Soto managed 3 hits and completed one base walk. He finished the year with 43 homers on 152 hits (averaged .263 runs per hit).

How did Jayden Daniels perform against the Chargers?

This marked the first matchup between the two teams since the renaming of the franchise. Back in 2021, the Chargers secured a narrow victory with a score of 20-16, highlighting their successful transition to Los Angeles after relocating from San Diego. It sets an exciting stage for future encounters as both teams continue to evolve.

The pressure was on Daniels and the Commanders to get back to winning ways, but it was the Chargers who took a first-quarter lead through Ladd McConkey. Cameron Dicker extended the lead by scoring a field goal from 55 yards.

Washington answered back through rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt’s 15-yard scramble touchdown and Matt Gay’s conversion of a 29-yard field goal.

Croskey-Merritt scored his second five minutes after the restart before Gay buried one from 36 yards.

The last nail in the coffin came from Jayden Daniels. He connected with Deebo Samuel for an 8-yard run to secure a third win of the season for Washington. The game finished in a 27-10 win for the Commanders.

Daniels completed 15 passes for 231 yards and 1 touchdown while gaining 39 yards on 8 carries. Croskey-Merritt accumulated 111 yards on the ground on 14 carries for 2 scores, and Samuel recorded 8 catches for 96 yards and one score.

Up next, the Commanders host NFC rivals the Chicago Bears. Last year, these two teams met in week 8. The Commanders won after Bears DB Tyrique Stevenson switched off on Daniels’ Hail Mary.

Washington and Chicago have met 53 times in the past. After last year’s win, the Commanders lead the series 27-25, with one game ending in a tie.
