The Washington Commanders upset the Detroit Lions on Saturday Night at Ford Field to advance to their first NFC Championship game since 1991. The Commanders put on an explosive display of offense to limit the powerful Lions 45-31.
Jayden Daniels, 24, delivered an impressive performance on Saturday in Detroit, completing 22 of 31 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 52 rushing yards on 15 carries, guiding the Commanders’ offense to a total of 38 points.
Daniels, the second overall pick at the 2024 NFL Championship, is only the sixth rookie quarterback to qualify for a Conference game. The previous rookie quarterbacks to reach this achievement.

Daniels made history when a legend like Tom Brady couldn’t. In his rookie year, Brady played only one game, playing 1-for-3 passing, for six yards. In his second year, Brady took the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl, defeating the Los Angeles Rams in the decisive final.
Patrick Mahomes, hailed as this time’s Brady, also had one start in his rookie year. He won that particular game. In his second year, Mahomes also reached the playoffs and the conference game. However, Mahomes lost that game to Indianapolis Colts.
On Saturday, Daniels tossed two touchdown passes, while fellow rookie Mike Sainristil delivered an electrifying performance with two interceptions, propelling Washington to a 45-31 victory over Detroit on Saturday night. The win secured the Commanders a spot in the NFC Championship Game for the first time since their third Super Bowl triumph 33 years ago.

Along with securing the victory, Daniels made history by breaking former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck’s record for the most offensive yards by a rookie in NFL history, including both regular season and playoff performances, as reported by the NFL’s Grant Gordon.
Daniels, needing 190 yards to surpass Andrew Luck’s 2012 record of 4,952 total yards, reached the milestone in the second quarter with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin. Additionally, he made history as the first rookie in NFL history to surpass 300 total yards in two separate postseason games.
