Jaylen Brown caught suggesting to WNBA girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick that Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James is not a pro

Bronny James has had a slow start to his NBA career. His performances in the Summer League games have shown that he needs to work on his game. Even though the Los Angeles Lakers have a plan of action in place, fans and analysts have questioned his abilities, especially after a poor college season. A new video shows that NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown seems to have chimed in on that narrative.

The NBA Champion was sitting courtside in Las Vegas to catch the NBA 2K25 Summer League game between his Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. In between the game, lip reading suggests that he apparently had this conversation with his girlfriend, former WNBA star Kysre Gondrezick.

JB: "I don’t think Bronny is a pro.”
Kysre Gondrezick: “I think he’ll be on the G-League team for sure.”
JB: “I don’t think so, I think because of his name he’ll be on the Lakers.”

Suggesting that Brown seemingly believes Bronny James does not deserve to be in the league. It is just because he is the son of LeBron James that he was drafted.

He might not have any ill thoughts when saying this, but he surely echoed what everyone has been saying so far. It is no doubt that James Jr. has a long way to go before he is ready at the NBA level. But to dismiss him completely due to his lineage could be a bit too far-fetched.

As just like his father, James Jr. is more of a team-oriented player than an all-out solo star. Therefore, his skills will come out in full display when he gets coached into the system. Eventually, he could end up contributing significantly to the Lakers squad.

Bronny James stops an alley-oop in mid air

Bronny James might have had another woeful shooting night for the Los Angeles Lakers. He finished with only 2 points and has so far scored 0 out of his 14 shots from the 3-point line. But he had one highlight play in the first quarter which showed off his defensive skills.

When the Boston Celtics pushed in transition, they attempted an alley-oop. But James Jr. showed off his vertical jumping skills by intercepting the lob.

That play has since gone viral, suggesting that even though his shooting has struggled, his innate ability to defend is right there. It could be the reason Lakers head coach JJ Redick wants the 19-year-old to focus on becoming a disruptor. This play was disruptive enough for coach JJ Redick to probably break out into a smile.

If Bronny James can effectively channel his athleticism to play like a ball hog, he could be plugged in sooner than later alongside his father LeBron James in crucial moments. If one of those moments happens to be against Jaylen Brown, it could be interesting to see how he responds when James Jr. stops him.
