- Jaylen Brown celebrated Jayson Tatum's return after ten months of rehab, contributing to the Celtics' 120-100 victory over the Mavericks.
- Tatum posted a double-double in his comeback game, recording 15 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in 27 minutes.
- The Celtics currently sit second in the Eastern Conference, with Tatum's return boosting their playoff prospects.
Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown were elated to see Jayson Tatum make his much-awaited return after ten months of tireless rehab. To add a cherry on top, the Celtics registered a convincing 120-100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at the TD Garden on Friday night.
Jaylen Brown has been one of the star performers this season. For the first time in his career, Brown was the primary scorer of his team as Jayson Tatum continued to work his way back from a long-term injury. Due to his impressive performances, Brown earned his way into the MVP conversation.
The Celtics have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2025-26 campaign. With Tatum ruled out for the majority of the season and with the trades of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics had broken up their 2024 NBA Championship-winning roster. Hence, many predicted that the Celtics would at best be a play-in team this year.
But to everyone’s surprise, that has not been the case. Led by Jaylen Brown, the Celtics sit in second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Now with Tatum back on the court, the Celtics will be optimistic about their chances in a wide-open Eastern Conference.
Brown is an avid streamer. He has used his streaming platform to voice his opinions and does not shy away from speaking his mind. Earlier this season, he criticized the NBA when he lost the NBA POTM award to Jalen Brunson, and not so long ago, he made a controversial statement that one needs to learn ‘flopping’ to be in the MVP conversations.
However, on his latest Twitch stream, Brown spoke about Jayson Tatum’s return to court on Friday.
It’s good to see, not only my brother back out there, but more importantly, besides basketball, the mental aspect… to see my boy smiling and seeing him out there having fun doing what he loves to do. That was a victory in itself.

With Tatum out, Jaylen Brown elevated himself into one of the best two-way players in the league. He is currently averaging 28.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 56 appearances this season.
Jayson Tatum makes a triumphant return after ten months
There were a lot of rumors and reports surrounding Jayson Tatum’s comeback this season. After an Achilles tendon rupture in the second round of the playoffs last season, it was expected that the 27-year-old would be ruled out for the entire 2025-26 campaign. But the forward made a speedy recovery and made his return with 19 games left in the regular season.
While some rust was expected on his return, Tatum’s first game got off to a clunky start. He was on no official minutes restriction. In a little over 27 minutes of play, he posted a double-double as he recorded 15 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.

Tatum’s minutes were impactful as well. The Celtics outscored the Mavs by 20 points when he was on the court. As he got more comfortable in the second half, Boston ran away with the win.
The 28-year-old has 19 games to integrate himself into the Celtics’ style of play and adjust to some of his new teammates before the postseason. They are scheduled to take on an in-form Cleveland Cavaliers on March 8 at the Rocket Arena.
Jayson Tatum admits he felt anxious on his comeback
An Achilles rupture usually takes 12 months to fully recover from. Hence, it is remarkable to see Tatum back on the court in just ten months. The Celtics will be careful not to take any risks, and it is likely he will not feature in all the remaining 19 games.
Tatum started the game 0-for-6 from the field and said he felt anxious early in the game in his post-match press conference.
I just felt really anxious. It’s been a long time coming just to get to this point. Many nights and days, I dreamed about this moment. The anticipation. The crowd. It’s been 42.5 weeks since I played in an NBA game, so just trying to get caught up on the speed and everything.

If Tatum can be anywhere near his top condition when the playoffs begin, the Celtics will be a huge threat in the East.
