Jaylen Brown seemed to have a subtle reaction to Derrick White being selected to replace Kawhi Leonard on Team USA’s Olympic roster. Brown posted three emojis with a monocle over the eye on social media. This may potentially hint at his surprise or skepticism about the decision.

Brown was in the initial pool of 41 players for Team USA and was considered a contender for the final roster spot, but was ultimately passed over in favor of Leonard. With White joining the team, the Boston Celtics will now have three representatives on Team USA, including Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday.

Brown had an impressive postseason performance. He led the Celtics to their 18th championship and earned Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP honors. However, White brings his own strengths to the team. He has earned All-Defensive second-team honors in the last two years and provides a strong defensive presence in the backcourt.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, White is expected to join Team USA in Abu Dhabi this weekend, before the team heads to France for the Olympics. While Jaylen Brown may have been the logical choice for some, White’s skills and experience make him a valuable addition to the team.

Kawhi Leonard withdraws from Team USA due to knee injury concerns 

USA Basketball announced that Kawhi Leonard has withdrawn from the 2024 Olympic team due to concerns about his knee injury. Despite feeling ready to compete and having some good practices with the team, Leonard determined it was in his best interest to withdraw. 

Leonard’s withdrawal is a blow to Team USA, but they remain heavy favorites to win a fifth straight Olympic gold medal in men’s basketball. The team boasts a talented roster, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum. Derrick White, who was recently added to the roster, will provide additional depth and defensive expertise.

Team USA’s first game at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is scheduled for July 28 against Serbia. Despite Leonard’s withdrawal, the team is expected to dominate the competition and bring home another gold medal.
