‘Awkward’ Jaylen Brown refuses to speak more about Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum getting benched in Olympics
Jayson Tatum didn't really get much time during Team USA's successful run at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum
It has been a difficult summer for the Celtics duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, with the former getting limited minutes in a star-studded Team USA side. Teammate Brown has finally broken his silence on the matter when he spoke with NBC Sports Bay Area during the launch of the Oakland XChange initiative on Tuesday.
However, Jaylen Brown was initially reluctant to talk about it, as he himself faced worse by being excluded from the list even as the team witnessed a player getting withdrawn due to injury.
I don't have any comments right now. I'm focused on the Oakland XChange, and I'm excited about that. Jayson will be fine. Jayson Tatum will be fine.Jaylen Brown said to NBC Sports
Despite winning gold at the tournament, Tatum played in only four games, which included the gold medal game, and averaged 17.7 minutes and 5.3 points. He came off the bench in all his appearances and struggled with his beyond-arc shots.
Both players would need to put that aside and focus on the difficult task ahead, defending their title. This is something that hasn’t been done since Kevin Durant was on the books of the Golden State Warriors.
Attempts to break up Celtics duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, Gilbert Arenas says
Leading the Boston Celtics to their 18th championship has not stopped the criticism of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. There’s been a narrative going around that there are those who want to break them up.
On a recent episode on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, Gilbert Arenas made a bold statement which has made fans wonder if there’s any truth to it.
They (are) breaking this team up, man. Have you ever seen a championship team be dissected the way this has? The best player, if you're it or he's it, you got the world doing that. Then, one doesn't make the (Olympic) team. He didn't get invited.Gilbert Arenas said on his podcast
It’s a tricky moment for the Celtics right now and fans would be eager to see the chemistry between the two players when they resume the season for the defending champions. The C’s would need both star players on deck for a successful title defense.
