Jaylen Brown did not make the original Team USA for the Paris Olympics. Despite winning the Finals MVP, Brown was overlooked and teammate Derrick White joined the team. Brown had people know about his feelings over the decision through his social media by dropping a cryptic post.

Nike had posted a take on Derrick White joining the team as a replacement for Kawhi Leonard. Brown was furious about it and went against the Nike brand. Brown felt that selecting White over him somewhere had Nike’s influence. Nike will sponsor the kit for the Team USA. As such, rumors suggest the sporting brand didn’t want Brown on the team

Stephen A Smith and Grant Hill address Nike and Jaylen Brown controversy

The news of Derrick White replacing Kawhi Leonard over Jaylen Brown did not go well in the basketball community. Stephen A Smith put his thoughts on the current situation and shared his view on X. Smith came to the support of Brown and felt the team snubbed the Celtics guard.

Even Team USA head Grant Hill was asked about the Brown and Nike situation. Despite the controversy surrounding Brown and Nike soaring through, Hill seemed to clear the misconception.

You can't, you know, get 12 spots and you have to build a team and one of the hardest things is leaving people off the roster that I'm a fan of that....um, so, you know, whatever theories that might be out there, um, you know, they, they're just that.

Despite Grant Hill downplaying the theory emerging around the internet, the supporters of Brown remain unconvinced. If the question was about who was the better fit? Jaylen Brown combined with Jayson Tatum to win the NBA championship.

Yes, Derrick White played an instrumental role. However, Brown and Tatum have made the Celtics relevant for the last several years after the era of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. As such, more questions remain about the snub of Jaylen Brown.
