Jaylen Brown SLAMMED by former player over his criticism of Bronny James
Bronny James was in a shooting slump in his first few games in the Summer League.
Gilbert Arenas reminds Jaylen Brown of his Summer League performances over his criticism of Bronny James
Second-round picks will struggle in their first few games in the Summer League. It happens when that said player comes off the back of a bad season in college. Plus, the pressure of being the son of LeBron James will play a part in the struggles. Bronny James has been through all that so far. As such, the comments from Jaylen Brown on James Jr. have hit a few nerves.
When NBA Champion Jaylen Brown said Bronny James should not be a pro at all, it brought out the choicest comments from Gilbert Arenas. The former player was talking about this along with his guests on the show Gils Arena. He picked up what Brown said and retorted back, reminding the NBA champion of his Summer League performances.
Jaylen Brown. Do you know what they said about him in summer league? He was the 3rd pick in the NBA Draft. The first three games, just like Bronny, Bronny was 6-26? Jaylen Brown was 5-26 from the field in his first three games in summer league. He's fine. No one bashed him. He was the third pick in the NBA Draft, and nobody put any pressure on him.Gilbert Arenas via Gil’s Arena
Arenas essentially shut down what Jaylen Brown said about James Jr. Gilbert Arenas and his guests did make a point that it is normal for draftees to not play well in the Summer League. This usually happens, especially when they know they will not play the same schemes or sets when the regular season starts.
The former player was clear that if a player like Brown, who scored worse than Bronny James in his first 3 Summer League games and was just crowned the NBA Finals MVP, then James Jr. also has hope going forward. He is probably still shaking off the rust.
Bronny James leads Lakers to victory
Today was Bronny James‘ 5th game in a Lakers jersey since getting drafted. In his first four games, he missed many shots and was infamously 0-16 from the three-point line. However, in tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, he played really well. He opened the game with a jumper that saw nothing but net. Then onwards, Bronny played with his usual resilience on defense while also tracking the ball well.
After all that effort and an unreal layup later, LeBron James‘ son breached the double digits mark for the first time since donning the purple and gold. He scored 2 out of 5 from the three to break his non-scoring streak. With those performances, the Los Angeles Lakers won their first Summer League game.
With two more games to go, the Lakers may find it difficult to reach the knockout stages. Even if they do not, and Bronny James manages to take this confidence forward, it will be a good Summer League outing. After all, he is a second-round pick. Generally, he should not be expected to be a lights-out superstar.
