First Tyreek Hill and now Jaylen Waddle, the Miami Dolphins don’t seem to worry about money when it comes to paying their wide receivers. Their No. 1 wide receiver is already the highest-paid receiver in the league and the mammoth contract they offered to the No. 2 receiver has made him one of the highest-paid wide receivers.
A source close to ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared that the Dolphins have signed Waddle in a lucrative deal worth $84.75 million extension including $76 million guaranteed. With an annual salary of $28.25 million, Waddle has become the fourth highest-paid wideout in the NFL– surpassing many team’s No. 1 receivers.
Hill’s immense popularity and expertise did not overshadow Waddle as he ranked 13th in the league with 3,385 receiving yards, since 2021— when he set the rookie record with 104 receptions. He is also ranked 16th for recording the most receiving yards by any player in his first three seasons.
The No. 6 overall pick is known for his thrilling combination of game-breaking speed and route-running ability which makes him a powerful offensive weapon in the Dolphins’ offense. Also, he and Hill form a dynamic duo on the field which is widely regarded as one of the strongest receiver combinations in the league.
After signing Waddle in such a lucrative contract, the Dolphins now appear to be in a tight financial spot with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is entering the final year of his contract with the Dolphins and the franchise has used the fifth-year option on him.
Fans react to Jayden Waddle’s mammoth extension with Dolphins
With this mammoth deal, the Dolphins now have two of the five highest-paid receivers in the NFL, where Hill is ranked third and Waddle fourth based on average annual salary. Interestingly, Waddle’s guaranteed money ($76 million) is more than that of Hill ($72 million). That’s why, fans didn’t seem to appreciate this move by Miami.

One fan wrote, “What a waste of money,” while another added, “Damn near 30 mil a year to deal with Tua throwing him ducks.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
Fans raised questions on Waddle’s huge contract, arguing that it is highly overpaid and the receivers alone wouldn’t bring the Dolphins a Super Bowl. All eyes are now on Waddle in the 2024 season, whether he would be able to live up to the expectations of his contract deal.
