Having the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears have been quite in the news throughout the offseason. Not only did they draft the best quarterback of the 2024 batch but also signed many offensive weapons for the rookie to rely upon.
All these efforts made fans believe that the Bears have the potential to win this season. However, it appears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is fed up with hearing about his team’s potential for the coming 2024 season or the high expectations from his team. Instead, he just wants to see them win games next season since he hasn’t been a part of Chicago with a winning record.
I feel like I’ve been on some talented rosters to where we’ve had a lot of upside. I feel like for me it’s one of those things where I’m tired of just having upside and having potential. I want to be in a position where we actually go out there and we are that and not just what we’re projected to be at.Jaylon Johnson said via ESPN’s Courtney Cronin
Johnson believes that all the hype around the team because of the offseason moves has raised the fans’ expectations through the roof and they believe the 2024 season will be the Bears’ season. However, until the players actually deliver by winning games, everything will go down the drain.
Jaylon Johnson urges Bears to prove themselves in the coming season
Since being drafted in 2018, the Bears cornerback has never got to experience a winning season and in four seasons with him, the team hasn’t ranked second within the division nor went beyond eight wins. Last season, they ranked fourth in the NFC North with a 7-10 record.
We got to go out here and we got to prove it and I think that starts with Day 1, starts with today. But that’s something that’s going to carry on from now until the end of the season whenever that is, if that’s playoffs or not.Jaylon Johnson further added
Although the defense handled many games last season, the team needs a whole new outlook and strategy for the offense to pull through in the coming season. That’s why Johnson asserted that the team needs to stand up to the expectations of the fans and that starts with the first days of the training camp.
