LeBron James will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. And there is no debate that he is the greatest player to ever play for the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, things did not go according to plan for James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night as they suffered a 129-99 blowout to the Cavaliers at the Rocket Arena.
In the 2003 NBA draft, LeBron James was drafted as the number one pick, and the rest is history. James spent 11 seasons with the Cavaliers. During his time with the Cavs, he brought relevancy to the franchise. He took them to five NBA Finals, helped them win their lone NBA Championship in 2016, and achieved numerous accolades.
The 2025-26 campaign represents James’ 23rd season in the NBA. After a slow start to the campaign, James seems to have found his top condition after turning 41 and has shown no signs of slowing down. He is currently averaging 22 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 6.7 assists. But considering he is at the backend of his career, the four-time champion has been vocal about Luka Doncic being the focal point of the Lakers.
It was not the homecoming James would have hoped for on Wednesday. It was James’ worst statistical game against Cleveland, scoring 11 points on 3 of 10 shooting while committing more turnovers (6) than assists (5). But it was still an emotional night.
The Cavs prepared a highlight package dedicated to James’ masterclass in Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals against the Detroit Pistons — a video that ended with the tagline “welcome home”. During an on-court interview with Donovan Mitchell and Jaylon Tyson, they were asked about James and his impact on the city of Cleveland. Tyson’s response caught everyone’s eyes.
This is Donovan Mitchell’s city now.

It was the Lakers’ second loss in their fifth game of a long eight-game road trip. The loss dropped the Lakers to 28-18 as they sit at fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Cavs extended their winning streak to a season-high five games and improved their record to 29-20 while sitting at fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Better win a chip… This will always be Bron's city pic.twitter.com/w5lXWNwyfr

I like his attitude, but frankly unless/until Mitchell actually wins a title here it’s still LeBron’s team and town. He wins one we’ll talk. He wins two it’s his for sure.

It appears that James did not take Tyson’s comments well. The fans attacked him across social media, which forced the young Cavs star to turn off the comments section on his social media account.
Jaylon Tyson gives LeBron James respect
James grew up in Akron, Ohio, and hence there is a strong bond between him and the community. It has eight years since James’ departure from the Cavs. While he went on to win a championship with the Lakers in 2020, the Cavs have struggled with postseason success despite the addition of Mitchell.
Following the game, Tyson dismissed any ill will towards James in his post-match press conference.

There was no disrespect there. Bron is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. I was a Cavs fan growing up because of him. If I offended anyone, I’m sorry. I take personal responsibility. We want to do the same thing Bron did.

The Cavs are looking to make it to their first NBA Finals in a wide-open Eastern Conference since James’ departure. Mitchell is leading the charge, and his teammates, including Tyson, are ready to work hard alongside him.
