Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has his own unique way of handling players, as superstar Jayson Tatum reveals.

Jayson Tatum almost recreated Travis Kelce vs Andy Reid Super Bowl altercation

Joe Mazzulla told Jayson Tatum to fight him like Travis Kelce and Andy Reid's Super Bowl

Jayson Tatum is not one to regularly lose his cool during a basketball game. He does not talk trash most of the time and has focused on being consistently good for the Boston Celtics. But it is not like he does not get technical fouls for various reasons.

He may not get as many technical fouls as other usual suspects do. Instead, he ends up with a lot less than them. But his head coach Joe Mazzulla is not one to ask his players to not enter a confrontation. When needed, Celtics players do what is needed.

Tatum’s most recent trash talk ended up backfiring and the Celtics lost to the East leading Cleveland Cavaliers. But even then, Mazzulla does not want his team to stop fighting on. Jayson Tatum was on New Heights and revealed what happened after he picked up his twelfth technical foul on Sunday’s win against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Joe was like, ‘Yo, can you get four more so you can get suspended?’ And I’m like, ‘Joe, I think I’m done’. He was like, ‘I would much rather you just come punch me. I want to fight. I would love to fight. When Travis Kelce ran into Andy Reid, do that to me’.

He told host Travis Kelce that head coach Joe Mazzulla brought him into the context knowing how that Super Bowl altercation ended up winning them their second straight ring. This revelation brought out a bout of laughter from both Kelce brothers.

Jayson Tatum clarifies the NBA athlete playing in NFL stance

During this podcast interview, Jason and Travis Kelce asked Jayson Tatum about the NBA player easily competing in the NFL discourse that ran a few months ago. To this, the Boston Celtics superstar forward said.

There are a handful of guys that play in the NBA that if they had an entire summer or a year to train and prepare, could they make an impact? For sure. But just drop a guy from the NBA and throw him in the game? No shot.

He made it clear that it is not as if NBA players do not have a chance to compete in the NFL. It is just that one cannot expect a star playing in the league right now to switch over to playing tackle football. Rather, given time, some of them can compete with football players.

This almost debunks the notion that NBA players can easily switch to playing football. The two are quite different and require separate skills other than the varying physical requirements. But given time, it can be done.

NFL players have no chance in NBA

On the other hand, quite a few NFL players play basketball on a regular basis. It is not competitive basketball, rather it is standard pickup games. But other than that, the six-time All-Star believes there is something else that counts.

There’s nothing funnier than watching football guys play basketball, I’ll say that. There’s always a video that comes up on Twitter of somebody in the NFL, their high school highlights … and it’s like, ‘He could’ve been …’ and it’s like, nah. I think they chose the right sport.

As he said this, Jason Kelce could not control his laughter. He understood where the Boston Celtics star was coming from. The NFL players can be good at high school or pick games. But the NBA is a whole different level, and many NFL players are not built to play in that league.
