Jayson Tatum amplifies rapper Vince Staples seeking justice for Celtics star’s playing time at Paris Olympics
After Jayson Tatum had a controversial Olympics run this year, Vince Staples came in support for Tatum on social media.
Jayson Tatum with Team USA
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is one of the brightest talents in the NBA today. He just came off the best season of his career, helping the Celtics win their 18th NBA championship. Tatum was a key pillar in the Celtics’ championship run last season and was also selected to represent Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Jayson Tatum played in his second Olympics representing USA this year. But this stint of Tatum’s run with the team was filled with controversy. In the first game of the group stage of the Olympics, USA faced off against Serbia. During the game it was seen that Team USA head coach Steve Kerr benched the Celtics stars and didn’t let him play for a single minute.
Kerr’s decision to bench Tatum against Serbia faced significant backlash from fans and analysts alike. Later, in an interview, Kerr admitted that he felt he was an idiot for making that decision.
Recently, popular comedian Vince Staples posted a tweet about Celtics star Jayson Tatum, discussing the idea of avenging Tatum. Shortly after, Tatum shared the tweet on his story, drawing attention to the issue, but he later deleted it.
Benching Tatum was a surprising move, especially considering he was coming off a championship win and had been announced as the cover athlete for NBA 2K25. Despite this, Tatum went on to win the second gold medal of his career. He will certainly be a frontrunner for the USA team in the next Olympics.
Jayson Tatum talks about the 2028 Olympics
After a controversial Olympics run this year, fans are wondering if Jayson Tatum will be part of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Despite being one of the best players from a championship-winning team, Tatum was limited to a role-player role during the tournament. As one of the most versatile stars in the NBA today, he wasn’t able to make the same impact on the Olympic stage.
In an interview with the ESPN, Tatum talked about his experience in the 2024 Olympics. During the interview Tatum was asked about being benched and his struggles throughout the tournament. However, he asserted his desire to be a part of the 2028 Olympics USA team and that his current experience won’t affect that decision.
It was a tough personal experience on the court, but I'm not going to make any decision off emotions. If you asked me right now if I was going to play in 2028 -- it is four years from now and I [would have] to take time and think about that. So I'm not going to make any decision based off how this experience was or how I felt individually.Jayson Tatum via ESPN
Tatum is currently 26 years old, and by the time next the Olympics come up, he is going to be 30. Fans could expect an even more polished Tatum in the few years, who could be the league’s best player.
