Jayson Tatum could put himself in another elite bracket. The Celtics star could join basketball legends LeBron James and Michael Jordan in a rare category. For now, there are only 2 players with an All-NBA first team, an NBA championship, and an Olympic gold medal in the same year.
The 2 players are LeBron James and Michael Jordan. However, Tatum can create individual history by joining the ranks of these 2 basketball legends if his nation wins the Gold medal at the Olympics.
In addition, Tatum has the potential to become just the seventh player in the fifty years of USA basketball to win both an NBA championship and the gold medal at the Olympics in the same year. Guards Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, the Boston Celtics stars, currently playing for the United States, are also in contention for this accomplishment.
On the sports side, Tatum thrives alone while driving to the rim and has become an enigma for defenders to contain inside. Although he has always been a prolific scorer, in the previous three years his field goal percentage has climbed from 45.3% to 46.6% to 47.1%, indicating an improvement in his efficiency.
Jayson Tatum opens up on “possibility” of winning NBA title and Gold medal at Olympics in same year
Notably, Tatum opened up on the possibility of winning an NBA title and the Gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the same year, claiming “it would be a hell of a year.”
It would be a hell of a year. A hell of a summer. I got no complaints, The guys who have won championships understand the feeling, what it's like and what it takes, every time they see me, they say, 'What's up, champ?' It's definitely good to hear that from your peers.Jayson Tatum told Marc J. Spears of Andscape
In addition, Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White all have the chance to become members of the elite group of superstars who have completed the double feature. The only players who have done it thus far are Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Khris Middleton, and Holiday.
