The 2024-25 NBA season kicked off on Tuesday with the defending champion Boston Celtics taking on the New York Knicks in the opener. The Celtics dominated, winning 132-109, but it was Jayson Tatum‘s stellar performance that stole the spotlight.

Tatum, an All-Star forward, had a great start to the season. With 37 points and 10 assists, Tatum led all scorers, followed by Derrick White with 24 and Jaylen Brown with 23. Boston’s shooting percentage was 50.5%, and all five of the Celtics’ starters scored in double figures. Not only that, in their first match of the new season, Boston knocked down 29 three-pointers, tying an NBA record in the process.

Moreover, Tatum, who is in his seventh season (all with the Celtics), just had a season in which he shot 47.1% from the field and 37.6% from three-point range in 74 games, averaging 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
