Jayson Tatum passes Kobe Bryant in incredible record as Celtics star wins first-ever NBA Championship
Jayson Tatum produced a game best performance to win his 1st NBA title.
Jayson Tatum passed Kobe Bryant to set record for most playoff points by player before age of 27 and win 1st NBA title with Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum has played in 113 playoff games. The last one won his 1st NBA title. His performance in the game was enough to propel his Boston Celtics to their 18th NBA title. However, the 7-year veteran eclipsed the late great Kobe Bryant in one category after today’s Game 5 of the NBA Finals performance.
Jayson Tatum is 26 years old. With today’s game-leading 31 points, he sets the record for total playoff points in history by players before they turned 27. In doing that he displaces Kobe Bryant, who held the record previously. A feat that goes to prove Tatum’s prowess as one of the best players in the league. It should also be noted that Tatum took 1 less season to set the new record. A testament to the trust placed in him since he came out of college.
Jayson Tatum was not the best player for the Boston Celtics during these NBA Finals. Rather it was his superstar teammates, Eastern Conference Finals MVP Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday. But after the Dallas Mavericks blew them out of the building in Game 4, Tatum took the onus on himself.
He led all players in the title clinching Game 5 by putting up 31 points. He also helped his teammates keep their double-digit lead by dishing out 11 assists. A performance that helped them quash the notion of any potential comeback by the Dallas Mavericks.
Jayson Tatum gets retribution for years of criticism
This was Jayson Tatum’s 2nd appearance in the NBA Finals in 3 years. He has always been regarded as the leader of the team ever since he broke out as an All-Star. But that loss 2 seasons ago brought out criticism from all quarters of the sporting world. Many analysts and fans felt he was not the leader they thought him to be.
So much so, that he was considered the 5th best player during these finals. A criticism that ended up being a major dent in his quest to become the best player in the league. However, with this performance, he will get some respite. This championship will surely help him in his quest to become one of the best players in the NBA.
