The Boston Celtics and their star man Jayson Tatum are on the verge of winning the decorated NBA title. The Celtics need just 1 win against the Dallas Mavericks to be crowned the NBA champions for the 18th time. Notably, ahead of a defining Game 5 against the Mavs, the Celtics’ Tatum shared his views on the Celtics fans and revealed how the fanbase has high expectations from their squad in the pre-match press conference.

Jayson Tatum discussed the challenges of playing for the Celtics with the media before Game 5. Tatum disregarded any sense of pressure, attributing it instead to the intensity of the fan support. He thanked the Celtics supporters for their unwavering love and support and for attending all of their championship games.

You really just feel the love and support from everybody in the city of Boston, and how bad they want us to win, how much they've been cheering for us. I don't look at it as pressure, just unconditional support. We have an amazing fanbase here.

Jayson Tatum blamed his side’s ‘defense’ after Celtics’ Game 4 loss to the Mavs

Jayson Tatum has been one of the most exciting players for the Boston Celtics over the years alongside his teammate Jaylen Brown. Interestingly, in the ongoing 2024 NBA Finals, in Game 4 the Celtics faced a historic loss against the Mavs, 122-84. Tatum thinks the Celtics’ defense is to blame for the defeat, as his side suffered their worst defeat in Finals history, a 38-point deficit.

I think it starts on the defensive end for us. We didn't get many stops. So they were allowed to set their defense up, and just naturally, when you're scoring at a high rate, you feel good about yourself.

In addition, in Game 4, the Celtics gave up more than 100 points for the first time in the series.

Tatum and Co. will be hoping they don’t repeat the same outcome in the upcoming Game 5 as they need to win just 1 game to clinch the NBA title. It will be intriguing to watch how the upcoming game between the Celtics and Mavs unfolds at the TD Garden.
