Another game against Serbia, another time Jayson Tatum found himself glued to the bench. The NBA Champion did not even play a single minute. Even though Steve Kerr and Team USA have the perfect excuse, many are asking questions. With just the gold medal game remaining in the Paris Olympics, basketball fans and analysts wonder when the All-NBA player will get a chance, including his mother, Brandy Cole.

After Jayson Tatum’s exclusion in the last game, renowned analyst Dick Vitale expressed his confusion, as no reasons were given for the decision. He tweeted from his official X account, seeking any sort of information.

Someone pls let me know is Jayson Tatum injured as he hasn’t received the PT (playing time) u would expect an All-NBA player to get.

To this, Tatum’s mother, Brandy Cole replied:

No he not. But if you find out what’s going on please let me know - unacceptable and makes NO SENSE.
Brady Cole quoted Dick Vitale’s tweet

Her statement made it clear that Jayson Tatum did not have any injuries. Rather even she was puzzled as to why he was not given a minute of playing time.

In fact, it didn’t make sense to her that her son, an NBA Champion and All-NBA First Teamer, didn’t play in Paris—not even for a minute. As a mother, it must have been painful to watch, knowing that her son is one of the best, yet wasn’t given minutes as head coach Steve Kerr had other ideas for the Olympics semifinal.

He observed that in the previous group game against Serbia, using guards made more sense than bigger, athletic players. However, when Team USA was trailing in the first three quarters, Kerr could have brought Tatum in to slow down Serbia’s perimeter attack—a job that Jayson Tatum excels at.

Steve Kerr could find a role for Jayson Tatum against France

The gold medal game at the Paris Olympics against France is a different prospect. They not only have a more balanced team but also have players such as Guerschon Yabusele, Isaia Cordinier, and Nicolas Batum. All three can attack from beyond the three-point line or drive inside.

And that would be the perfect situation for Jayson Tatum to thrive on. There is no better combination of a perimeter defender who can score from anywhere like Tatum. So even though Steve Kerr has announced that Kevin Durant will start, expect Jayson Tatum to feature heavily—even more than other stars who have played considerable minutes so far.

If that happens, and if possible, Jayson Tatum ends up with the highest score, all should be forgotten. Else expect Brandy Cole to unleash her fury once again. This time, with a lot more support than what her son has received so far.
