Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a pretty rough outing at the 2025 Home Run Derby. The New York Yankees star managed to hit just 3 home runs in the first round and was eliminated. Fans on social media would go wild after seeing this performance from him.
The infielder was taking part in his first-ever Home Run Derby this year. Prior to the All-Star Break, he had been in fine form and hit 17 home runs in the 65 games he had played.
Things just never got going for Chisholm Jr. on Monday night at Truist Park in Atlanta. The 27-year-old was unable to find any sort of power in the first round.
While facing the pitches from his stepfather, Geron Sands, Chisholm Jr. managed to hit more line drives than home runs. He would even have a timeout and chat with his teammates, Aaron Judge and Max Fried, regarding his performance.
In the end, he finished dead last in the standings. The second-worst performance in the first round came from Matt Olson, who managed to hit 16 home runs. That was a dozen more than Jazz Chisholm Jr. managed to come up with.
Following his performance, it seemed even the MLB accidentally roasted him. While sharing a graphic about him, the official MLB account on X wrote that he was there for the “vibes.”

Chisholm Jr. was the first Yankees star to participate in this event since 2017. That year, the Yankees had two representatives in Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. A rookie Judge would hit 47 home runs that night to take home the Home Run Derby title.

Since 1985, there have been 19 instances where players have failed to hit a single home run in this event. The last person to not manage a single one was Yasiel Puig in 2014. At least Chisholm Jr. had 3 more home runs than him and did not join him in that unwanted list.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. claims he tried to keep his swing intact at 2025 Home Run Derby
The 2025 Home Run Derby produced one of the worst performances by a player in the event as Jazz Chisholm Jr. managed to hit just 3 home runs. Following the event, the New York Yankees star expressed that he was not after winning and just tried to keep his swing intact.

As per the 2-time MLB All-Star, he expressed that if he gets around 20 home runs next season before the All-Star Break, he would actually try to swing and hit home run at every ball.
If I got more than 20 homers by the half next year, I’ll do it again and actually try to hit homers every swing… It’s not that I wasn’t trying to hit homers, I was trying to keep my swing and hit homers. Instead of just trying to hit everything in the air, I was trying to keep my line drive swing and hit homers.
Jazz says he was trying to “keep his swing” instead of trying to hit homers every swing, and says he’d do the Derby again next year with that different approach if he has 20 homers at the break pic.twitter.com/y2t5HIxGog

Well, Chisholm Jr. might have said those things as a joke, fans on social media did not like this comments from him and bashed him again.
The Yankees star recently underwent another position change. After the team moved DJ LeMahieu to the bench before eventually designating him for assignment, they moved Chisholm Jr. to second base. Before this, Chisholm Jr. had occupied the third base position.
Speaking of the Home Run Derby, 2025 Home Run Leader Cal Raleigh won the event. The Seattle Mariners star defeated Junior Caminero in the final round with an 18-15 score.
