The New York Yankees made history on Saturday evening as they advanced to the World Series for the first time in 15 years. They took the ALCS title with a 5-2 win against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field.
While all players of the Yankees were considered the MVP for boosting the team so far, the crown certainly belonged to NY star Juan Soto on Saturday night. In the 10th inning, Soto smacked a 3-run home run to clinch Game 5 of the ALCS series.

Juan Soto has been dominating the year with the pinstripes as he recorded 41 HRs, and 109 RBI, with a .989 OPS and 128-run lead in the American League. Since he’s traded from the San Diego Padres, he’s been proving much more worth than what he signed up for with the NY Yankees.
NY infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. made sure to point out his importance and brilliance on the field by deducting what his pay is supposed to be in the free agency. When asked by YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits, Chisholm said, Soto should be paid $700 million.
I felt like I was laying in a coffin after he hit it, ’cause I was dead. My body just went from having a heart attack to not.

He said that’s the amount the Yankees should offer to retain him during free agency, as there are already rumors of his contract going up in the $600 million zone. If he gets a $700 million offer, then he’ll be on par with Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani signed MLB’s highest contract with the Dodgers for a 10-year deal. If Soto is to remain with the Yankees, his contract is expected to surpass that of Aaron Judge, who signed a 9-year $360 million deal with the team.
Even if Soto signs a $600 million contract which NY Post’s Jon Heyman labeled as the new “whisper number”, he’ll be the 2nd highest player in MLB. There’s no doubt the Yankees will try to re-sign him before he hits free agency, but other frontrunners in the deal are – NY Mets, San Francisco Giants, and the Washington Nationals.
NY Yankees players highly praise Juan Soto after team clinches World Series spot
Apart from Jazz Chisholm Jr. being upfront about the contract offer on Juan Soto, NY Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton said the team’s aim is to bring both Soto and the World Series Championship title back home. It’s the first time since 2009 that the team got to play in the World Series.

He was not the only one though. Yankees baseball executive Brian Cashman echoed the same amazement when Soto helped the team clinch the ALCS title. He was seen clutching his hands together and muttering “Oh my God” as the players poured out of the dugout to join the players on the field in celebration.
We need him to stay. He’s going to stay. We gotta bring it home and then we’ll bring him home.

Cashman also commented on how proud and ecstatic he is for the team. He talked about how bringing in Juan Soto was all to increase their chances at the World Series and he delivered the result. “I think he’s had a hell of a run,” Cashman said.
Juan Soto himself noted,
Thank you to everybody who was involved in this trade. I’m really happy with that. I’m really happy to be here. Traded me to one of the best teams I’ve ever been on in my life.
Juan Soto as per Greg Joyce of NY Post.

However, Cashman also believes Soto has the right to hit free agency and choose for himself. For now, the focus is on winning the Fall Classic and worrying about free agency later.
