Injuries are an extremely unfortunate part of professional wrestling and are something that nearly every superstar has to go through in their career. JD McDonagh also suffered a major injury two weeks ago on Raw. However, thankfully, it appears that the 34-year-old is doing better than many expected.
JD McDonagh recently posted an Instagram story where he could be seen working out with a skipping rope. This story was accompanied by an inspiring quote and motivational music. For someone who went through something so serious just a few weeks ago, he seemed very fit.
On the January 27th, 2025, episode of Raw, McDonagh teamed up with Dominik Mysterio to challenge The War Raiders for their World Tag Team Championship. During the match, the Irish wrestler went on a springboard moonsault. However, his body landed awkwardly on the edge of the announcers’ desk.

Shortly after the match ended, McDonagh was rushed to a hospital. A few hours later, he penned down his thoughts on X, thanking his fans for the support they showed for him. He also revealed that he had fractured multiple ribs and punctured his lung, which would put him on the shelf for the time being.
Vince Russo condemns JD McDonagh for his actions after suffering serious injury on Raw
Needless to say, this botched spot had the entirety of the wrestling world abuzz. Speaking on The Wrestling Outlaws, Vince Russo did not shy away from giving his opinion on this matter. He stated that he found two things to be very troublesome about this whole situation.
Vince Russo said that when McDonagh had his botched landing, he was yelling at his TV screen, telling the 34-year-old to stay down as getting up would only hurt him further. The second thing that he found even more annoying was that the Raw superstar got back into the fight. Many fans commended the World Tag Team Champion for his resilience, completing the match even after getting hurt. However, it appears that the former WWE writer considered this a stupid decision.
Unfortunately, as stated by McDonagh himself, this injury would put him out for a couple of months. He has already missed the Royal Rumble and will not be seen at Elimination Chamber, either. Furthermore, although there is no definite timeline for his recovery, he will most probably end up missing WrestleMania as well.
