Jean Silva is gearing up to fight one of the biggest tests of his life at the UFC 314 PPV card at the Kaseya Center this weekend. He locks horns with archrival Bryce Mitchell for it, with the two sharing lengthy barbs. However, the 28-year-old is taking more than just fighting aspirations into the octagon. Jean Silva’s mother has been a big part in shaping the man he is today.

Silva’s chest has had a flashy Nordic-style lock with a diamond with his mother’s name inscribed. To the uninitiated, a padlock tattoo tends to be a sign of real emotion, accessible only to those carrying it. For Jean Silva, that ink predating Christian systems is his mother who sacrificed much for him. The UFC 314 star once explained the extent of it in a media interview.

I saw my mom be r*ped by three men. Three guys abused my mom, I saw my mom kill those three guys, and saw my mom be arrested…I saw my mother abandon her career — Which was boxing so she could raise us…

His love for his mother and her struggles to put him here is a well-known one. Silva once went viral at UFC Denver, in tears after a win, addressing his mother. Early Friday, at the wee hours (8:50 am ET) of the UFC 314: Morning Weigh-In Show, even Chris Weidman addressed the dedication he puts into his mom after every scrap. After UFC Vegas 84, he also explained the padlock tattoo enshrined to her.

The lock has a diamond with mother’s name right under it, so no one can touch these emotions. Here’s the heart, my happiness. And the lock symbolizes many things. And it’s an old lock, from the Nordic era, before Christ, so maybe it’s a lock that only real emotions can open. It’s basically that. Only real people by my side…

While he feels the ‘feels’, Silva is no pushover when it comes to a hard-fight. He was a proper breakout case from last year; unheralded but unmatched. The fighter credited all of his 4 UFC wins to TKO stoppages. The last of which was a rather one-sided win over Melsik Baghdasaryan at UFC Seattle. Now, Brazil’s Fighting Nerds product will have one more chance to do that against Bryce Mitchell.

Bryce Mitchell might need to hang up on fighting after ‘brain damage’, per UFC 314 PPV rival Jean Silva

CTE is real in combat cultures, and ‘Lord’ Silva is here to remind everyone of that. His opponent this weekend, Bryce Mitchell, already made the headlines with some questionable antisemitic thoughts. Meanwhile, self-proclaimed big Christian ‘Thug Nasty’ would dash into the fact that there is only one Lord, and Jean Silva isn’t it, dousing a tattoo.

Silva would retort back at the flat-earther lover, and even get the tag of a demon-possessed fighter for it. It’s been on all throughout fight week. To that end, Silva felt he was carrying Saturday’s stacked card on his back and has kept violent intentions in reserve. The featherweight fighter thought he would knock the wind out of the opponent bad enough at UFC 314 to give him CTE.

He’s an excellent fighter, …Listen, he’s fought Ilia Topuria, he beat Edson Barboza, Dan Ige – everything was going good until he got knocked out by Josh Emmett. I think that really messed up his brain and his emotions, and everything just kind of went wrong…Might knock him out in the first, in the second. We’ll see, but maybe he’ll need to retire after this because he’s going to have some brain damage after this one.

Jean Silva durign UFC 314 Media Day

Current divisional king Ilia Topuria would relinquish his 145-pound gold during the frame of this card. He is going north, to the 155-pound class. Part of why fans are retracting that he won’t find success at 155 pounds is because of how Mitchell performed and grappled against him.

Mitchell is on-point with his scrambles, and it shows. However, per DraftKings Sportsbooks, Silva is a big -375 favorite to prop as a winner. Come tonight, he means to show why and make it business as usual.
