Jeanie Buss and Lakers called out for ‘low-ball’ $70 million offer to Dan Hurley
Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson take a jibe at the Los Angeles Lakers board regarding their offer to Dan Hurley for their head coach position.
Jeanie Buss and Dan Hurley
The Los Angeles Lakers have been on the search to hire a new head coach for their roster as they parted ways with their previous coach, Darvin Ham. Interestingly, the Lakers had been linked with the UConn Huskies’ head coach Dan Hurley, also offering him a 70 million for 6 years deal, which Hurley respectfully turned down. Notably, on the NightCap show, Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson called out the Lakers board for their lowball offer to Hurley.
Johnson claimed on the NightCap Show that the deal that was offered to Hurley did not make any sense as none of the coaches at the Lakers made it past 3 years. In addition, Sharpe also asserted that the Lakers should’ve made Hurley a better offer to move him out of Connecticut, an offer that would “blow his and his family’s minds away.”
When you think about it, who turns down a historic franchise like the Lakers, especially with a magnificent deal like 6 for 70? But I think of you look at the resume and body work of all the coaches that have been with the Lakers, I don't think any of them have got past 3 years. On the NightCap Show, Chad Johnson said
You gotta make him an offer than he cant refuse that his wife say 'Hold on, how much you say?'Shannon Sharpe responded
On the contrary, the Lakers are actively looking at hiring a head coach for their side, with many names linked to the franchise. Also, with Hurley turning down the Lakers, what happens with the Lakers’ head coach position remains to be seen in the coming days/weeks.
Is JJ Redick closing in on the Lakers head coach position?
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick will reportedly have a formal interview this weekend to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Wojnarowski, Redick, an ESPN commentator and former NBA player, might win the head coaching position for the Lakers with a strong interview.
In addition, Redick also has good ties with Lakers star man LeBron James as the two also have a podcast together, Mind the Game Podcast. Interestingly, as there was so much going on, including Redick calling the NBA Finals for ABC, the “Mind the Game” podcast did not release an episode this week. One could also claim that Redick would be busy preparing for his interview instead.
After UConn Huskies’ Dan Hurley turned down a $70 million offer, Redick seems to be in a good position to secure the Lakers head coach role. It will be intriguing to see what happens with Redick and the Lakers head coach role in the coming days.
