Jeff Bezos seemed to be taking interest in buying a team in the NFL however he reportedly failed in his attempt. The team is none other than Washington Commanders, whose home city has long ties with the Amazon founder.
A report by Financial Times has revealed that some of Bezos’s significant investments in Washington have been plagued with setbacks, and opposition and overshadowed by events. The British daily newspaper did a deep dive into the billionaire’s financial picture in Washington and found that it wasn’t the Commanders’s former owner Dan Synder to blocked him, but was outbid by Josh Harris.

Harris, as well, took a recent interest in owning an NFL team and he succeeded by purchasing the Commanders for $6.05 billion, which is considered the most exorbitant price paid for an NFL team. There were also reports of Harris’s first bidding on the Denver Broncos, but he was outbid by Walmart heirs Greg Penner and Rob Walton.
He also owns the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, although Bezos’s attempt to buy the Commanders turned out a failure, he might bid for another NFL franchise.
Josh Harris’s $6 billion bid brings stability to Commanders
Although it’s hard to imagine what the Commanders’ situation would have been if Bezos had succeeded, it appears that they are under a stable belt with Harris as the owner. The $8.8 billion Harris has made integral chances in the team and might be entering the 2024 season with a rookie starting quarterback.
Soon after purchasing the franchise, Harris reportedly spent a fortune of $75 million in renovating the FedEx Field for a better fan experience.
He has also made changes in the composition of the franchise by firing Ron Rivera for the disastrous 4-11 end to last season and bringing in a prominent face of Dan Quinn for the new head coach position.
