Jeff Hardy has achieved a lot throughout his professional wrestling career, which has spanned multiple decades. He has won world championships and put on incredible matches across various promotions. Now, at the twilight of his career, he had recently stated that he wanted to be the one to retire CM Punk and then go into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jeff Hardy elaborated on his plans for a potential feud against Punk. The high-flyer said that the Best in the World was one of the most popular names in WWE at the moment. Thus, he wanted to go into the feud as a heel. These dynamics would be the exact opposite of their rivalry in 2009.
Hardy called CM Punk a superhero in wrestling today. Thus, he felt like he needed to bring out a heel persona to take him on. The 47-year-old has been a babyface for most of his career due to his exciting move set. During his prior feud with the Second City Saint, he was even called the most popular man in America after Barack Obama.
Jeff Hardy pitches himself as a heel against the “one and only popular” CM Punk as a way to revisit the rivalry.

The former WWE Champion said that he saw this match as possible, and it actually just might be. The WWE-TNA partnership has opened a lot of doors for superstars to make cross-promotion appearances, and they even make good money doing so. While TNA superstars have been restricted to NXT for now, theoretically, there is nothing stopping them from having main roster feuds against some of the biggest superstars.
Jeff Hardy talks about his issues with alcohol and addiction
Jeff Hardy’s career was severely derailed due to his addiction issues, which have even been brought up in storylines. Once, he showed up hammered during the main event of a TNA PPV where he was supposed to face Sting. The Enigmatic Soul claimed that had it not been for these issues, he could have even been bigger than John Cena.
During his appearance on Insight, Hardy talked about his alcohol issues. He said that his return at WrestleMania 33 was the last time he felt good before slipping into a deep depression. His father passed away in 2021, which made issues worse. During a live event in Texas, he appeared sluggish, hopped the barricade in between the matches, and did not return. WWE wanted him to go to rehab. He refused and was let go shortly after.
Hardy waited out his 90-day clause to join his brother, Matt Hardy, in AEW. However, he felt that he had screwed that up as well, for both him and his brother. While he never got physical withdrawal symptoms after stopping his drinking, he would always slip back in. However, he was now trying to make the best of his career in TNA and for his brother.
