“They’re Awfully Close to It,” Current AEW Star on if WWE Has Lost the Plot with John Cena’s Ongoing Heel run
A current AEW personality has opined on what is potentially holding the John Cena evil arc down. The fans also believe that it's been underwhelming.

What started off as a genuine, jaw-dropping prospect has begun to show its wear and tear. That’s what the general consensus is in regard to John Cena‘s WWE heel turn. Is the company unsure of what it exactly needs out of the Peacemaker actor? Current AEW fame Jeff Jarrett offered his two cents on the burning topic on his podcast.
Speaking on My World, ‘Double J’ said that even though he doesn’t want to believe that WWE is in no man’s land with the Cena task at hand, the promotion is treading close to it. The 57-year-old wrestling veteran is curious to see how the story unfolds from here. Jarrett mentioned how it’s absolutely pivotal to book the initial phases of a heel turn correctly.
I don’t wanna say they’re in no man’s land, but man they are awfully close to it………..That was March and we’re just at the end of May, better pour some gas on that fire.

The WWE Hall of Famer noted Cody Rhodes’ return to the fold at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Jarrett is also keen on seeing if WWE decides to turn Cena back to a babyface, which, if done hastily, would undo the vitriol that The Cenation Leader spat in recent weeks. Jarrett has urged WWE to put some gas on the fire before it’s too late to do so.

The fans were cynical of Logan Paul staying away from the 17-time world champion, and their concern was justified. Because on June 7, Cena will join forces with Paul against Rhodes and the reigning world heavyweight champ, Jey Uso.
The only thing that could add to the fan discourse is if WWE decides to include Travis Scott in the story as well. It might end up being the case, as the rapper is expected for an appearance at Money in the Bank.
Logan Paul was considered to face John Cena at WrestleMania 41
A few months ago, there was chatter among the dirt sheets that John Cena might actually face Logan Paul at WrestleMania 41. WWE had penciled in ‘The Maverick’ as one of Cena’s farewell tour opponents. When rumors started surfacing online about the company planning Paul vs. Cena for WrestleMania, which was the latter’s last, the outrage was unprecedented.

It turned out the reports were premature, and WWE had mapped it out in November itself that the 48-year-old will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE title in Las Vegas. That being said, a future showdown between Cena and Paul might be in the cards. Since the fans naturally loathe the IMPAULSIVE host, WWE could turn Cena into a babyface against the elder of the Paul Brothers with ease.
‘Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect’ interfered in Paul’s world title match against Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event. It was only after that when Rhodes returned and forced the heels to retreat. It’d be interesting to see if ‘The Maverick’ eventually becomes the reason for Cena’s loss at Money in the Bank, prompting the latter to snap on the social media megastar.
John Cena set to appear on this week’s SmackDown
On the back of beating R-Truth at Saturday Night’s Main Event, John Cena will journey back to SmackDown this Friday. WWE has also confirmed Cody Rhodes’ return for the show. With both of them under the same roof, the fans could definitely expect them to be featured in some fashion together.

Their in-ring promo battles before WrestleMania were top-notch. In a dig at Rhodes, Cena once called ‘The Prodigal Son’ his chauffeur. The former AEW EVP retorted with Cena being handpicked by Vince McMahon to be the company’s poster boy and not by the fans themselves.
‘The Cenation Leader’ clapped back when he said that he made empires for billionaires, while all Rhodes did was steal money from their kids. It was a Tony Khan reference that made the rounds on social media for quite a while. ‘The American Nightmare’ was tested on the mic but he didn’t hold back reminding Cena of his “you can’t wrestle” era.
