Former NBA player states the reason Victor Wembanyama could win MVP

Victor Wembanyama

He is no longer a rookie sensation but Victor Wembanyama has entered his second NBA season with high, if not higher expectations as former NBA player Jeff Teague, suggested on the Club 520 podcast that he could be in the MVP conversation. This will be pleasing to his supporters because at just 20 years old, Wembanyama could challenge Derrick Rose’s record as the youngest MVP ever.

According to Jeff Teague, Victor Wembanyama will make history if the Spurs manage to finish 6th or 7th in the Western Conference. An audacious attempt but judging by his rookie season, where he averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and a league-best 3.6 blocks per game, then it’s a possibility.

If [the Spurs] get to the 6th to 7th seed and win the play-in in the West, he might win MVP because they roster is a**.

Jeff Teague said on the Club 520 podcast

A bad team performance wasn’t going to derail him as he led Team France to a silver medal in the Paris Olympics. He delivered a standout performance in the gold medal game against Team USA with 26 points in 30 minutes.

Good news for Spurs, as with the addition of veteran guard Chris Paul, he will be better equipped to support Wembanyama’s development. But with the odds not in their favor, they may struggle to secure a top-six spot in the West.

Victor Wembanyama reportedly gained 25 pounds to start the new season

The league isn’t ready for the Alien as it was revealed that he had gained weight and bulked up to 235 pounds ahead of his second NBA season, a significant increase from his 210-pound frame last year. A good sign to show that he is ready to put last season behind him and come back as a war machine.

On noticing this development, fans and analysts have made comparisons to Giannis Antetokounmpo, who also transformed physically early in his career. The Greek Freak gained 26 pounds between his rookie year and his third season, a similar trajectory Wembanyama could follow as he continues to develop.

Who knows, maybe he could be gunning for more than the Defensive Player of the Year he lost last season to fellow Frenchman, Rudy Gobert. The Spurs begin the new season with a tough away game against the Dallas Mavericks and all eyes will be on Victor Wembanyama.
