New York Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich hasn’t had much success since stepping up in the middle of the season. Ulbrich replaced Robert Saleh in Week 4 following their loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London.

The New York Jets have lost their three games under Ulbrich, finding themselves at the bottom of the AFC East. The unhappy statistic is a stark contrast from when they were a game away from finding the top spot. The Jets will be playing the Houston Texans on Thursday, four days after their last loss against the New England Patriots. Multiple critics have denoted this as the worst imaginable position for quarterback Aaron Rodgers with playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

The 47-year-old was asked how they perceived the next game against the Texans in such a short time. The Jets have very little time to prepare ahead of their next game, which is very much a deciding point for the team. Ulbrich noted that the team will embrace the change.

It’s a fantastic thing as far as getting the taste out your mouth. To sit on that one for six days is — I mean, it’s hard enough to sit on it for one day. So I really believe it’s a good thing for us right now.

Jeff Ulbrich told the media

Ulbrich went on to share that quarterback Aaron Rodgers emerged from Sunday’s game feeling strong. He added that there are no lingering physical concerns that would require extra recovery time and expressed confidence that Rodgers is fully prepared for the quick turnaround.

The New York Jets rank a lowly 25th in scoring offense, with an average of 18.8 points per game, and 24th in total offense, averaging 310.6 yards per game. Rodgers’ performance has been shaky, too, with his 12 touchdown passes counterbalanced by seven interceptions, hindering their performances. The four-time MVP is also facing calls for a potential retirement.

New York Jets looking for options amid the short week

Amid a challenging season, the New York Jets are working to tackle one of their major weaknesses. The Jets conducted kicker workouts on Tuesday, signalling changes on Thursday’s game. This decision comes as veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein faces ongoing issues with accuracy, prompting the team to explore other options.

On Tuesday morning, six kickers had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at MetLife Stadium, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The candidates vying for a spot included Zane Gonzalez, Brayden Narveson, Riley Patterson, Spencer Shrader, Andre Szmyt, and Cade York. The Jets are thoroughly assessing these options before finalizing any roster changes.

The Jets had shown unwatering support for veteran kicker Zuerlein, opting not to bring any outside competition. The team is ready to consider alternatives with Thursday Night Football approaching. The tryouts will extend into Wednesday, allowing all six kickers another chance to impress before the final decision is made. For now, Zuerlein remains in contention, leaving the door open for him to retain his position.
