The 13th seed Jelena Ostapenko had a frustrating evening at Wimbledon on Wednesday, losing to Barbora Krejcikova 6-4, 7-6. However, her frustrations reached a boiling point when she started lashing out at her player box.

During one of the changeovers, she looked towards her player box and ordered one of her coaching staff members to leave the arena. After a brief confusion, one of her coaches departed, showing a breakdown in communication between the player and her management.

Even with changes to her player’s box, nothing changed as far as the imminent result was concerned, as Krejcikova dominated and fully deserved her victory. She will be facing Elena Rybakina next.

Krejcikova is ranked lower but shouldn’t be seen as the underdog in the semifinals against the No.4 seed. She has a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head matches, winning their three-set encounters at the 2021 Grampians Trophy and the 2022 Ostrava semifinals.

How Barbora Krejcikova beat Jelena Ostapenko in the Wimbledon quarterfinal?

Jelena Ostapenko entered the quarterfinals at Wimbledon without losing a set and only dropping 15 games. With a strong record against Barbora Krejcikova, including a recent win on grass, Ostapenko started strong, winning the first six points of their match on Wednesday.

However, Krejcikova quickly found her rhythm. She broke her opponent’s serve early, turning a 40-15 deficit into a one-set lead with some excellent returns. Ostapenko struggled against the Czech’s serve but managed to take a 4-1 lead in the second set after a tough fifth game.

Krejcikova fought back, winning four games in a row as the Latvian became frustrated and made an incorrect challenge. Ostapenko fought hard, saving two match points and breaking Krejcikova’s serve with a double fault. She then held her serve to push the 28-year-old to the brink of a deciding set.

Krejcikova stayed calm and won her serve with ease, gaining a 4-2 lead in the tiebreak. She outplayed Ostapenko, earning three match points and converting the second. After just over 90 minutes, the 31st seed celebrated her win with a warm hug at the net. She will face 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina next. The Kazakh player beat Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-2 to reach her first major semifinal since the 2023 Australian Open. Krejcikova has a 2-0 record against Rybakina, with their last match in 2022 at Ostrava.
