Jerod Mayo’s New England Patriots succumbed to yet another defeat after the Los Angeles Chargers blew them out with a 40-7 win at Foxborough. This time fans let him know their feelings straight to his face that they have grown tired of the constant disappointments.
Saturday, week 17’s loss meant the Patriots sit on 3-13, which birthed the “Fire Mayo” chants inside the Gillette Stadium. It wasn’t a new experience for Mayo but unlike the previously muted jeers, this time fans sounded demanding that owner Robert Kraft must fire Mayo as soon as possible.
After the game reporters wanted to document Mayo’s reaction because such kind of chants were last heard right before the Patriots cut quarterbacks Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. The 38-year-old confided that it’s nothing new for him because he is always under pressure to deliver.

Fans didn’t complain much last week even though the Patriots lost against divisional rivals the Buffalo Bills. At least in that game, they put up 21 points against an already playoff-qualified team, resurrecting a hope that the team is still capable of playing good football. However, they were brought back down to earth after Saturday’s loss.
Here's Davon Godchaux's full quote on calling the "fire Mayo" chants "ridiculous."

“Yeah, I heard it. I mean, a lot of fans are, you know — I get it. They’re pissed off. They pay their money to see — season tickets and see the Patriots. A wise person told me when I first got up… https://t.co/ZzQ8kGY3Tm
Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux wasn’t a fan of the ‘fire Mayo’ chants inside the stadium. From his point of view, it’s ridiculous to even consider such an outcome.
NFL insider claims Jerod Mayo will remain as the head coach of the Patriots
The Patriots are in for a long ride with Jerod Mayo because he isn’t going anywhere. Kraft handpicked him after firing Bill Belichick. And as Godchaux highlighted, it has barely been a year since Mayo became the coach. He needs time to make it work.
According to NFL insiders Tom Pelissero, Mike Garafolo, and Ian Rapoport, Mayo will get his time because rumors suggest Kraft intends to keep him for the season barring any kind of catastrophic meltdown.

Rapoport further added that the Patriots could make some personnel changes. Both offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington will be under the radar. Especially Covington, because he inherited a top-10 defense, but the recent results rank the Patriots in the bottom 10.
Now this report aired before the Patriots’ loss against the Chargers leading to the ‘fire Mayo’ chants. So, the ball is now in Kraft’s court.
