After a disappointing start to his NFL career, Shedeur Sanders was set to start for the Cleveland Browns against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Week 12. He had one week to prepare with the 1st team, which meant he could utilize the best offensive linemen, receivers, and running backs at his disposal.
Usually, the difference between the 1st and 2nd units is enough to help a QB’s performance improve considerably. More so, when the said quarterback has never had an opportunity to practice with them.
In his first game, Sanders threw his first interception when trying to find Jerry Jeudy. In this game, he could not connect with the team’s leading wideout in the 1st quarter.
During their first drive in the 2nd quarter, Sanders again looked for Jeudy to his left, only for the Raiders’ Charles Snowden to intercept it before it could get to the WR.
Sanders went to the bench and went over his mistake. After another punt, the rookie QB received the ball from his center and scrambled to his right to avoid oncoming defenders as he waited until his receivers were open.
When he saw that no defender was covering Jerry Jeudy, the Colorado Buffaloes QB calmly threw the ball. Now with the pigskin in his hands, the 2024 Pro Bowler ran towards the right.

As he came face-to-face with 3 Raiders defenders, Jeudy slowed down. The only problem was that he could not see strong safety Jeremy Chinn running up from behind, who then punched the ball out of the receiver’s hands.
Fans are furious with Jerry Jeudy for costing Shedeur Sanders a big gain
Had Jerry Jeudy held on to the ball, Shedeur Sanders could have finished the night with 259 yards instead of the 209 in his first NFL start.
Fans were rooting for the rookie QB, who faced a lot of humiliation during the 2025 NFL Draft, and then was the subject of trolls as he waited for his turn.
Fans felt that an experienced wideout such as Jeudy was expected to ‘watch their six.’ Instead, his lapse of concentration stopped the Browns from possibly scoring another field goal. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Great play by Shedeur ruined by Jeudy

Smh they not used to these passes anymore. The last time they had a QB this good was Jameis Winston. Lol

Forgot what it was like to catch the ball and couldn't remember what you're supposed to do afterward.

It is not clear if Jerry Jeudy will have the chance to rectify his mistake and link up with Shedeur Sanders on big gain plays, as head coach Kevin Stefanski is not ready to commit to who among his two rookie QBs will play in the next game.
Deshaun Watson was coaching Shedeur Sanders on the sidelines
When the Cleveland Browns selected first Dillon Gabriel, and then Shedeur Sanders in this year’s draft, the idea was that they would back up Joe Flacco until Deshaun Watson returns next season.

When the latter does, both the rookies would be his understudies until the situation changes. Watson had not been seen publicly at Browns games as he was recovering after re-rupturing his right Achilles tendon.
During this trip to Las Vegas, the 30-year-old decided to make the trip alongside his teammates, as Sanders was set to make his first start at quarterback.

During the game, cameras captured the two watching their defense put up another outstanding performance as a unit. Then, before the rookie QB was about to go back out and lead his offense, Watson was seen going over the day’s plays with his understudy.
