It’s not easy being a Cowboys fan, especially for those born in the late 1990s and the 2000s. They missed the chance to experience the club’s glory days. Not for the lack of trying. Even after Jerry Jones spent a jaw-dropping amount of cash to build competitive rosters, the Cowboys never managed to replicate the franchise’s most successful period.
Jones, who bought the Dallas club for $140 million in 1989, turned it into a massive conglomerate. The Cowboys’ yearly turnover is something most franchises dream of replicating. Forbes named them the most profitable sports venture in the world for three consecutive years.
However, a normal fan isn’t concerned about the profit margin. He just wants to see the Cowboys win trophies as they used to when Jones first took over as the head honcho. Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin formed the backbone of the team and led them to multiple Super Bowl championships.
Sadly, Jones has failed to live up to the expectations. At 83, he’s the fifth-oldest owner and the oldest general manager of an NFL team. Yet, he has no desire to relinquish his powers anytime soon. His goal is to retire as the owner with the most Super Bowl victories.
I’ve got work to do [for sure]. But at least I’m up to the second rung of the ladder. My goal is to have retired and won a Super Bowl as an old man.
Jerry Jones said on Wednesday
It’s a noble dream to have when the team is actually capable of winning something. In reality, the Cowboys is the only team that hasn’t played in the NFC Championship game since 1996. Moreover, they have now missed two straight playoffs, in the last season of Mike McCarthy and the first year of Brian Scottenheimer’s tenure.
Regardless, a man can still dream of reaching his goal before walking away into the wilderness. He must work hard, though, to catch up with Robert Kraft, who has won six rings, courtesy of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Six [rings]? So, I got work to do. Got work to do. But at least I’m up to the second rung in the ladder.

Jerry Jones to lead the search for the Cowboys’ next defensive coordinator
Jones, ever the optimist, believes the team is on the right path and a few tweaks here and there would make them a title contender. First of all, he must look for a new defensive coordinator. The DC position is vacant as he fired Matt Eberflus after just one year.

There are valid reasons behind moving away from the former Chicago head coach. The Cowboys gave up a franchise-record 511 points, which likely cost them a playoff spot, despite having one of the league’s top offenses. Quarterback Dak Prescott played some of the best football of his career, finishing third in yards passing and fourth in touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens joined hands to rack up 2400+ yards and 12 touchdowns, while Javonte Williams crossed 1000 rushing yards in his first year on the team.
Maybe the Cowboys would have enjoyed a stronger season with Micah Parsons leading their defense. It wasn’t possible because Jones traded Parsons to the Packers before the season began. Sure, the Cowboys brought Pro Bowlers Kenneth Murray and Quinnen Williams, but their rushing defense didn’t live up to expectations.
Every team has holes… I see six teams that weren’t in the playoffs last year that are in the playoffs this year. I know it can happen. I know how close it is.

It has to start with the appointment of a DC, and Jones is ready to bring in someone with a proven track record. Prescott won’t be around forever. He’s the highest-paid quarterback in the league with very little postseason success on his CV. But he still needs help from his teammates on defense to win games.
